You may remember our deaf puppy, Flip, adopted by a couple we know very well. His training is progressing in between the times he decides being a puppy is more important! His new adopters say this:
"This boy is a real hoot. He catches on to our signs when you can get him settled (he is VERY puppy). Loves to wrestle with sister Loretta. He is getting good at SIT and LAY DOWN. The funny thing is we can't help but talk to him as though he can hear us! Patience is indeed the key. He can be like a little ninja; you don't know he is around so a bell on his collar is on our list. He is good at meeting people. He has taken over our lives and it is joyful. Flip has filled a large hole in our hearts having lost our other friend. A new adventure begins every day!"
Don't be afraid to adopt a deaf pet - there are many rewards!
AND, HERE’S A MIRACLE STORY “BEHIND THE STORY”
FLIP has another sister! Early November, Debbie and Ray’s 7 year-old Willow opened gate and decided to travel and did she ever! This girl was missing for three months in the woods! She had to rely on generations of canine survival instincts to keep her safe through predators, icy cold weather and snowstorms. It is still a mystery but YHT search and rescue teams did not give up. Hundreds of posters, sightings, food locations set out and then, in February, she appeared at a family’s home in Walker. After a few days, they coaxed her into their yard and made notification. A reunion at the vet where she spent the night and then she came home! Amazingly, thin and dirty with rough paws, she was fine. Has already put on 3 pounds! (Gates are now triple locked and checked!)
