The experience of immigrants and U.S. policy towards asylum seekers, particularly from Central and South America, has been a major topic on our minds this season. Welcoming the stranger is core theme of our faith, appearing in scripture many times, including "When a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do them wrong. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love them as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God" (Leviticus 19:33-34). Our Justice & Peace ministry team has been working to bring two major events this week so that we might hear directly from the communities and individuals that are most impacted when we talk about welcoming the stranger. Please join us for these events as we journey deeper towards solidarity with our immigrants and resisting inhumane immigration policies.
