Choose Aerospace Announces ASA Scholarship Winners!
In partnership with Choose Aerospace, ASA awarded three aviation mechanic student scholarships last week during the annual Aviation Technician Education Council (ATEC) Conference in Fort Worth, Texas, on Monday, March 21. ASA supports Choose Aerospace in its efforts to unite companies, associations, labor unions, and educational institutions towards spurring interest in aerospace careers, and to identify and implement solutions for the aerospace workforce shortage. One of the biggest threats to continued industry growth is the availability of a diverse, qualified technical workforce.

Aviation Mechanic Rules and Certification
The long-anticipated new Part 147 regulation has been signed and pending publication in the Federal Register. Additionally and in support of this new rule, the FAA has also published a revised Aviation Mechanic Practical Test Standards (FAA-S-8081-26B) as well as the new Aviation Mechanic Airman Certification Standards (FAA-S-ACS-1). Here’s what this means for AMT schools and mechanics in training:
-
The existing Part 147 remains in effect until the new Part 147 is both published in the Federal Register and consistent with the effective date stated therein.
-
The existing ASA Mechanic PTS (ASA-8081-AMT-4 supported with the March 2022 Update) remains in effect, as it includes the components which make up the new 8081-26B (i.e. the 8081-26B is the compilation of the 8081-26A, 8081-27A, 8081-28A).
-
The new Mechanic ACS will go into effect consistent with the effective date stated in the new Part 147 published in the Federal Register.
Trust ASA will stay on top of all of this, keeping you informed to ensure you have the most current and correct information for your aviation training needs.
