New Student Sectional
Aeronautical Chart Study Tool
| |
|
This sectional chart excerpt is for ground training and flight planning practice. An excerpt of the Seattle Sectional, the fold-out chart depicts all classes of airspace and topographical symbols used on the sectional aviation flight planning chart. All sectional legends are included, and the chart is printed to scale and can be used with conventional aviation plotters. Not for use in navigation, this less expensive chart alternative provides the information pilots in training need to learn airspace, flight planning, and route selection.
A critical tool for all visual flight rules (VFR) pilots, Sectional Charts are designed for visual navigation of slow to medium speed aircraft. The topographic information consists of contour lines, shaded relief, drainage patterns, and an extensive selection of visual checkpoints and landmarks used for flight under VFR. Cultural features include cities and towns, roads, railroads, and other distinct landmarks. The aeronautical information includes visual and radio aids to navigation, airports, controlled airspace, special−use airspace, obstructions, and related data. Scale 1 inch = 6.86 nm/1:500,000.

AirClassics® Crew Trip Bag
Named Best Durable Flight Bag by AirlineGeeks.com
Certified commercial pilot and instructor Kasia Szwed-Carlson recently reviewed a variety of flight bags for AirlineGeeks.com, and ASA's AirClassics® Crew Trip Bag was named Best Durable Flight Bag.
"We all know that an airline pilot’s on-the-go lifestyle is fast-paced and at the mercy of the airline’s schedule. Whether your workday is progressing as planned or missed connections and crowded airports are affecting your daily workflow, a well-organized flight bag with quick access to essential items can be lifesaving."

Test Pilot: 1,001 Things You Thought You Knew About Aviation
by Barry Schiff
| |
|
Regarding his choice of questions for the “Test Pilot” column material, Barry Schiff asserts, “If the answer isn’t surprising, educational, or entertaining, I don’t want it." Schiff is on a continuous quest for aviation knowledge—and the flight instructor in him wants to share it. Organized into eight chapters, the book presents fun facts on the following subjects: History, Piloting, Navigation, Weather, Aircraft, Airlines and Military, Facts of Flight, Procedures and Regulations.
Through multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, mix-and-match, and essay questions, the reader is challenged to derive the answer before finding it at the end of the chapter.
A true aviation buff, the author teaches new information, clarifies points commonly misunderstood, and provides a wealth of knowledge on the aviation industry. Illustrated throughout with unique and entertaining photographs from Barry Schiff’s own collection.

Originally Launched in 2008, the Learn to Fly Blog is for student pilots and those considering flight training. This is a great resource to acquire the aeronautical knowledge needed to be successful during and after training. Certificated pilots and flight instructors will find this a platform full of insights into the aviation environment, in addition to providing encouragement and guidance to newer members of the aviation community. | |

In the past few years, drones and air taxis have both taken their turn in the spotlight. The frequency of food and online shopping deliveries has brought drone delivery discussions to the fore, and the Paris Olympics generated talk about how air taxis could be used for large events in urban areas.* Flying cars are making test flights, and people are going into space as tourists.
