COVID-19 Financial Support
July 20, 2020
It is with extreme pleasure that Ontario Sailing announces that, in partnership with the Government of Canada and the Canadian Red Cross, we are able to provide some financial support to our members. Sailing schools or organizations who made modifications to their regular programming to deliver programs aimed at children and youth and/or people with disabilities during COVID-19 are eligible. Funds have been made available to support the cost of providing personal protective equipment, signage and other supplies.
Ontario Sailing has secured approximately $20,000 to distribute amongst eligible member organizations that meet the focus of the funding. Our goal will be to divide up the amount so as to provide some support to as many as possible. The exact amount available for each individual member organization will depend on the number of eligible applicants.
To be eligible, organizations must be a member in good standing with Ontario Sailing and as such, meet the following criteria:
  • Use certified instructors that are registered with Sail Canada (actively in progress of certification under the COVID-19 exemptions will be permitted),
  • Utilize Sail Canada's Checklick system,
  • Be in compliance with the Ministry of Health's Guidance for Summer Day Camp documents and other appropriate legislation,
  • Purchased PPE and signage or supplies related to operating programs focused on children & youth and/or people with disabilities during COVID-19,
  • Submitted a completed application by the deadline date and agree to submit an invoice within 14 days of being informed of their approved amount. Also, agree to provide any needed statistical information (age/gender) at the completion of the season for grant reporting, and
  • Agree to allow Ontario Sailing to publish their name as a recipient.
To submit an application, a Director responsible for the school or Commodore should complete the online application here: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=bfRVPvVH80OQW-dm_8GOP1AxU-NkFUBDmBt8qjz1O-1UNTYxSzhBNEtZSEJIQzFXWjhPTlBXRjJaWi4u
Only applications completed and submitted before NOON on THURSDAY, AUGUST 6th, 2020 will be considered.
If you have any questions about the form or the application process, please contact Lisa Roddie at lisa@ontariosailing.ca.
We are thrilled to be able to offer some financial assistance to Sailing Schools and appreciate the funding that we received from the Government of Canada and the Canadian Red Cross to enable Ontario Sailing to provide help. We recognize that each of our member organizations, like us, are facing a difficult financial situation in 2020 and we will continue to look for avenues to support our members.
Here for you!

Sailing Plan™  App for iOS and Android
Available now!

During these challenging times, many people are taking to the water to enjoy the peace and serenity that boating offers.

As we all know though, on the water anyone can run into trouble when they least expect it. In fact, one-third of all water-related deaths in Canada occur while boating.

The Sailing Plan™️ Small Vessel Safety App has been developed as a fast and easy-to-use tool designed to save lives through timely alerts.

This new free App, developed in partnership with Public Safety Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard, makes the completion AND sharing of float plans easier and faster for boat captains and provides data, only when needed, to emergency contacts for Canadian search and rescue professionals.

This App should be part of every boater's safety tool kit!

Download and try out Canada's Only Automated Sailing Plan App for Small Vessels, the Sailing Plan App.
