"And I've learned That we must look inside our hearts To find a world full of love Like yours, Like mine Like home"
Devin Spears
joined the EPAC family in January, 2001 when her mother Valerie enrolled her in the EPAC Kids' Theater Workshop. Devin enjoyed the Kids' Theater Workshop and made many good friends. She worked hard and landed the leading role of "Dorothy" in the 2001 EPAC Kids' Theater production of "The Wiz". Devin was also a member of her school choir and symphonic band at West Middle School in Binghamton and won a spot in the Area All State and Broome County Music Educator's Association choruses. In July, 2002 Devin and her mother Valerie were senselessly murdered at their Binghamton home.
In her memory, EPAC has established the
"EPAC Devin Spears Scholarship Fund".
This fund awards scholarships annually to graduating high schools seniors who are pursing higher education in the arts. All proceeds from tonight's showcase will go into the scholarship fund. Since 2004, we have awarded 74 scholarships totaling over $36,700 honoring Devin's memory.
