I am Andrea Vargas, EPEL's new Community and Family Engagement Coordinator. My role is to connect with families and organizations in the community to offer resources and support. I look forward to meeting you in the community. If you see me out and about please stop and introduce yourself. Please let me know what I can do to support you and your family in the first 2,000 days of your child's life, birth to kindergarten.

ABOUT EPEL 

EPEL's mission is to build a connected community dedicated to helping young children thrive. EPEL serves families as an early learning community resource hub and connector. 

EPEL is a group of organizations that work collaboratively to meet the early childhood care and education needs of families with young children, from pregnancy through age five. 

• We promote developmental screenings for children, ages birth to five.

• We connect families to community services including developmental screenings, early intervention, preschool, child care, medical and dental services, early literacy programs at the library, and other family and child supports.

The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program is all about growing healthy families. Well Child Center’s WIC program serves pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women and families with children through 5 years of age, including children in the care of fathers, grandparents, and other legal guardians including the state.

• WIC offers free and nutritious foods, like whole grains, fruits and vegetables, dairy and dairy alternatives, beans, eggs, and infant foods.
• WIC staff care about and support families by offering breastfeeding support, nutrition education, and connections to other helpful community programs.
• WIC is for lots of families. WIC does not require proof of citizenship or immigration status. Contact us for our current income guidelines.

The Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Early Childhood is excited to announce Smart Start Transition Grants. These grants will be administered by INCCRRA and will transition licensed child care programs from the Strengthen and Grow Child Care grants to Smart Start Child Care in the future. Smart Start Transition Grants focus on providing stable and predictable funding in order to improve quality and support workforce development.
