Hosted by Vice Chair Councilmember Krystal Oriadha and Employ Prince George’s, the event opened with powerful remarks from Vice Chair Oriadha, who emphasized the importance of driving economic growth, investing in local businesses, and creating wealth-building opportunities. This event sparked meaningful conversations through engaging panel discussions, networking, and real-time Q&A with the business community.

A special shout-out to our panelists from Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation, Maryland Department of General Services, FSC First, Maryland Comptroller’s Office, PG County DPIE, and Prince George's County Office of Procurement, who shared insider tips on navigating county and state agencies for permitting, licensing, and funding. Prince George’s County Procurement even offered one-on-one meetings to help small businesses understand how to apply for and win contracts. Workforce News & Highlights

The Case for Long-term Workforce Planning in Competitive Markets

Any organization that fails to consider its workforce needs in five to 10 years is at risk. As technology advances, demographics shift, and the economy changes, organizations that want to succeed must focus on building and maintaining competitive workforces.

For decades, Kodak was a leader in photography, even pioneering the first digital camera in 1975. Yet, despite recognizing the digital shift, the company failed to realign its workforce. Kodak’s expertise in film manufacturing didn’t translate to the emerging digital landscape, where success required semiconductor technology, software development, and consumer electronics expertise. By the time it attempted to pivot, competitors had already seized the market.

Tough job market? Gen Z responds with gig work and entrepreneurship

The class of 2025 entered a tough job market this summer, but some members of Generation Z are adapting.

For some young Americans, a majority of whom are entrepreneurial-minded and believe traditional 9-to-5 schedules are “outdated,” unconventional work is a solution to getting ghosted by employers. Some pick up multiple jobs and record their day-to-day for TikTok, hoping to monetize their routines further. Others turn to platforms that help them get gig work like Thumbtack, Fiverr or Taskrabbit.

“I literally applied to like 85 actual 9-to-5s in all different types of industries,” said Nola Rodgers, 22. “None of them came through. Taskrabbit had the only people who actually responded to me.”
