Happy Black History Month!
This month provides us with a wonderful opportunity to pay tribute to and celebrate the remarkable individuals who have shaped our world. It's a time to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of African American activists, inventors, scholars, doctors, artists, and more.
In Prince George's County, we see the enduring legacies of these individuals, woven into our community's fabric. Discover how we, in partnership with Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) and Verizon, unveiled a groundbreaking regional effort aimed at promoting economic stability and prosperity across the DMV. This initiative seeks to empower individuals and families in the DC and Baltimore Metropolitan Regions by integrating workforce development services with essential needs support, financial and computer literacy training, and skills development.
Our newly launched Equity & Economic Stability Department and Initiative is set to play a pivotal role in driving economic mobility for youth and families in the DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia regions. With the expansion of services to Northern Virginia, the District of Columbia, and the Baltimore Region of Maryland, we introduced Employ DMV and Employ Baltimore. These initiatives are designed to unite various service providers in a comprehensive effort to foster economic stability and prosperity.
A key highlight of the launch was the call to action for partners to join us in fostering economic equity and prosperity across the DMV. This collective effort aims to establish a strong network focused on service delivery, fundraising, career development, and the formation of a DMV Economic Mobility Community Network.
Additionally, the unveiling of our 4 Wheels for Work initiative showcased a revolutionary initiative aimed at increasing access to reliable transportation and driving economic progress. In collaboration with Prince George’s County Government, Vehicles for Change, and the Full Circle Auto Repair & Training Center, the program focuses on empowering returning citizens through an automotive mechanic training program and awards vehicles to eligible residents offered employment or in need of reliable transportation to sustain employment.
Read more about this historic moment and discover how we are shaping a more economically equitable future for everyone in the DMV region.
