March 13, 2025 | Volume 53

Hello March!

As we continue Women’s History Month, let’s take a moment to reflect on the remarkable contributions of women throughout history and the women shaping the future of EPG and workforce development in Prince George's County.

This month serves as both a celebration and a call to action for continued growth, equity, and empowerment in our workforce development initiatives. Together, we honor our legacy and forge new paths for progress, ensuring that every voice is heard, and every talent is recognized.

Honoring our Incredible Women in Leadership

Women's History Month | We honor and celebrate our incredible Women Leaders from managers to the C-suite! We are thrilled to see these inspiring women featured in the People on The Move section of the Washington Business Journal.

A special thank you to EPG leadership for recognizing the hard work and dedication of these talented women who are driving impact and change. To all of the amazing Women at EPG, your commitment to workforce development and economic growth is truly commendable.

Let's applaud our dedicated colleagues who are passionate about connecting individuals to life-changing career opportunities and bridging the gap between job seekers and employers. Their impactful work is instrumental in driving the economy in Prince George's County and the DC Metropolitan Region.

A Shining Beacon of Hope for Over a Thousand Federal Employees

With a gathering of over a thousand Federal Employees at the Hotel of University of Maryland, the Federal Employee Career Transition & Resource Fair was a crucial event that offered essential support and resources to the residents of Prince George’s County, shining a beacon of hope. While many initially entered feeling defeated, scared, and hopeless, many left with job offers, multiple on-site interviews, newfound health insurance, financial assistance, and a reawakened sense of optimism for the future.

We express our gratitude to our key partners, including the Prince George’s County Executive’s Office, Prince George’s County Office of Human Resources Management, and the Prince George’s County Workforce Development Board for their collaboration. Special thanks to our esteemed guest speakers, Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller, Secretary Portia Wu, Maryland’s Secretary of Labor, Acting County Executive Tara Jackson, Prince George's County, and Valerie Farrar, Acting Director of Prince George's County Office of Human Resources Management, for sharing their valuable insights and words of encouragement with all attendees.

Above all, we extend our appreciation to the 35 government agencies, 60 private employers, and 25 resource partners who provided on-site job interviews, job offers, career pathways, mental health counseling, financial aid, and health insurance. Your support has been a source of hope for those seeking security, answers, and a brighter tomorrow.

For those impacted by recent Federal layoffs, the support continues at the District 7 Mass Job Fair at the Suitland Community Center on March 15th from 12 to 4 PM! Explore opportunities for your next career, meet employers offering on-the-spot interviews, access job search resources, attend career workshops, and receive resume support.

Additionally, you can visit tinyurl.com/EPGFedRes for curated resources designed to assist federal workers during challenging times.

In conclusion, we express our sincerest gratitude to all the federal employers for entrusting us to assist them during this event. Your trust is truly valued, and we remain dedicated to providing ongoing support and services to meet your needs. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you.

Women in Business 2025: Impacting the missed generation

In Grant Thornton International Ltd.’s “Women in Business 2025: Impacting the missed generation,” the data presents a risk for companies globally: companies are moving too slowly toward gender parity in mid-market leadership. While women are projected to reach equal representation in senior management roles by 2051 — two years earlier than previously projected — waiting 26 years means businesses are missing out on tangible performance benefits today.

Equal Pay Day Report: Women Face Persistent Wage Gaps in Maryland

The Equal Pay Day Report addresses the disparities between full-time working women and men, emphasizing that women are typically paid less. In Maryland's 13 local workforce development areas, the majority of women earn less than their white, non-Hispanic male counterparts. The report reveals that in 11 out of 13 areas, certain racial or ethnic groups experience significant lifetime wage losses. The gender pay gap varies across counties due to demographic factors and industry concentrations. Efforts to address these gaps are integral to the Maryland Department of Labor's mission, with programs aimed at enhancing labor force participation and ensuring equal pay through initiatives like job training, professional licensing, and enforcing anti-discrimination laws.
