A Message from Principal Virgin
EPHS Families,

Welcome back from what I hope was a restful week filled with time for family and fun! It’s great to see our students back here today for our last two weeks of Term 3 (next Thursday, April 7, is the last day of the Term). Please keep an eye on this weekly update throughout the spring as we will have several important dates and happenings to relay.

At 7:00 pm on April 4, for our April edition of EP Connects, in collaboration with our PTO, we are pleased to welcome Deb Cavitt for a presentation on adolescent mental health warning signs, strategies, and interventions. Deb is an advocate, trainer, and project director for Minnesota Association for Children’s Mental Health (MACMH). Cavitt gives presentations and works on projects with schools, children, youth, parents, and professionals to increase understanding and reduce the stigma related to children’s mental health disorders. As a parent coach and advocate, she helps families navigate systems when seeking care for a child with mental health challenges.

Deb will discuss how Youth mental health challenges have greatly increased during these unprecedented times. The COVID Pandemic, global warming, and world events have added to the everyday teenage stressors of homework, peer pressure and navigating relationships. This presentation helps parents to distinguish typical teen mood swings and troubled teen emotions and behaviors. Parents will learn to recognize signs of serious mental health concerns in teens. Strategies and resources will be shared for prevention, early intervention and a teen mental health crisis. The presentation will conclude with a question and answer session. EPHS social worker Lindsay Hanenburg and school counselor Lisa Quiring will join Deb and me this night. Click here for the Zoom link.

Have a great week and see you soon!
