February 7, 2022
EPHS Families,

As we start up Semester 2, we wanted to share an update on our grading and reassessment practices. Providing students with grades that accurately reflect their mastery of the essential learning targets for each course is the ultimate intention. As we pursue that vision we have made commitments to grading practices that are mathematically accurate, hope-inspiring, and bias resistant.

Our Grading & Evaluation Process remains the same. The adjustment we are implementing for Terms 3 & 4 is a school-wide reassessment form. Here are a few important aspects of the form:

  • Students will be required to initiate and reflect on the initial assessment prior to reassessment. Our belief is that reflection on prior performance is an essential component in the learning progression.
  • Students will be required to complete formative work (aligned to the assessment) prior to reassessment. This provides structure for students demonstrating a need for further practice.
  • Teachers may assign additional learning tasks prior to reassessment when appropriate.
  • Student and teacher will mutually agree on the logistics of reassessment.

We also wanted to take this opportunity to reiterate some key portions of our reassessment protocols:

  • Students can retake/redo assessments in the academic performance category.
  • Students are able to reassess until they have earned 80% or greater, following completion of the EPHS Reassessment Form.
  • If a student earned 80% on the initial assessment, they are able to reassess one time, following completion of the EPHS Reassessment Form.
  • Any re-take/re-do is worth 100% value.

Students can access the reassessment form in each of their Schoology courses. There may be hard copies available in some of their classrooms as well.

Please be in touch with any questions.
