As the year draws to a close, we are delighted to invite you to an EPIC Conversation featuring Virginia Papaioannou, professor emerita from the Department of Genetics and Development at Columbia University Medical Center and EPIC’s beloved yoga teacher. Join us for an engaging discussion on her career and groundbreaking research.
Ginny Papaioannou was active in teaching and research at Columbia for 24 years. Her research laboratory had a long-standing interest in the genetic control of early mammalian development and organogenesis. She took advantage of both naturally occurring and experimentally induced mutations and was a pioneer in applying gene targeting technology to the mouse to produce models for human congenital abnormalities such as the DiGeorge syndrome and the ulnar-mammary syndrome. A major strength of the laboratory was the combination of classic experimental embryology with molecular biology and targeted mutagenesis. Ginny will also be discussing her late-life conversion to the practice of yoga and how she unexpectedly found a rewarding retirement activity through EPIC.
Join us for this enlightening EPIC Conversation, followed by an end-of-year Winter Party to celebrate the achievements of the past year and usher in the holiday season.
