Update from Dr. Enslin
This first quarter EPIC has focused on having a stronger presence in the power and energy community. We were especially pleased to be the only university center in attendance at DistribuTECH, a multi-national conference with approx. 13,000 attendees. We were able to share with a broad audience the opportunities EPIC provides and the research that is taking place here. There was much interest in our center and we will continue to attend conferences for additional exposure. Our Affiliates Program is now up and running, this is a fantastic program that provides a wide range of benefits to industry members who would like to take advantage of what EPIC offers in workforce and development and applied research.

MSE in Energy now enrolling
The Master of Science Engineering program with Energy Concentration at UNC Charlotte is a cooperative effort among all the engineering departments in the College of Engineering. Led by EPIC with input from representatives from the energy companies that formed EPIC in 2010, this new energy concentration is open to all students with backgrounds in sciences and engineering. Pre-requisite courses will vary depending on applicant backgrounds, but the intent of the program is to have few, if any, pre-requisite courses to enroll. To learn more

President Spelling visits EPIC
On March 15,
Margaret Spellings, the new president of the University of North Carolina system stopped by EPIC on her two-day tour of the University. During her visit she mentioned EPIC saying "New, state-of-the-art buildings will be attractive to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) employers. We owe it to students to give them the best possible preparation for entering the workforce." EPIC was pleased President Spellings included EPIC in her busy schedule.

EPIC Energy Seminar Series welcomes industry experts
EPIC invites all to attend our Energy Seminar Series. The series strives to engage students, faculty and industry partners and to provide opportunities to learn about different aspects of the energy industry from energy experts. Seminars take place every Tuesday at EPIC from 12:30 PM-1:30 PM. Seminars are open to all and are free. Click

Special Event: Reinventing the Power Industry
CLT Joules and EPIC are pleased to invite you to attend a first of its kind event for the Charlotte area, where executives from Southern Company, Duke Energy and IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates will gather to share their thoughts on the power industry as it looks to transform with the expansion of distributed energy and big data analytics and the new ways to generate, deliver and price energy. Special guests include Rob Caldwell, Duke Energy; Kim Greene, Southern Company; and Larry Makovich, IHS CERA.

Congrats to EPIC team members
On March 23, 2016 two of EPIC's team members were recognized as nominees for UNC Charlotte Employee of the Year! Beverly Guessford, Executive Assistant to the Director, and Robin Moose, Business Officer, were nominated and selected as finalists for this prestigious award. EPIC Engaging with future students
Discover Engineers Week was a busy one for EPIC and we used this occasion to visit several elementary schools and EPIC hosted a Discover Engineering Day where approx. 100 students, parents and teachers participated in tours and demonstrations. Visits took place at Albemarle Road Elementary, Merry Oaks Elementary School, and Winecoff Elementary School. EPIC's David Causey and Yamilka Baez as well as alumni, UNC Charlotte students, and EPIC industry partners had a blast sharing how cool engineering is with students!
