President's Message

I hope all of you had a safe and enjoyable summer. As fall approaches, and regular business activities increase, we all need to continue to be vigilant in our efforts to control the spread of COVID-19.

Here at ERAC, we’ve had a busy summer conducting numerous training exercises for first responders and our Plan Participant members. These events took place primarily in British Columbia and Alberta, where we completed liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) firefighting training sessions with first responders from five fire departments, conducted one ERAC response team regional training and assessment and three full-scale Environmental Emergency (E2) exercises with Plan Participant members.

Congratulations to the GFL Environmental Inc. LPG response team in Prince George, BC and remedial measures advisors, Pat Mason, Shane Milne and Kelly Tricker for successfully completing their annual regional training and assessment on July 14 & 15.

ERAC's Dangerous Goods Emergency Management Conference
July Training Sessions Bring ERAC Through Northern BC

This July, ERAC was in northern British Columbia to conduct a significant amount of outreach and ERAP training and assessment work. Our sessions began with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fire-fighting training for the Regional District of Kitimat Stikine, where we had firefighters from Thornhill, Hazelton and Port Edward attend a two-day session, sponsored by CN and ERAC.

Transport Canada Class 3 Flammable Liquids ERAP Deadline Extended

In July, Transport Canada (TC) issued a notice to Flammable Liquids Plan Participants notifying of changes to Class 3 Flammable Liquids ERAPs and Fire Response Requirements.

Over the past months, ERAC has been working to ensure our Plan Participants are in compliance with TC’s changes and fire response requirements.

New Plan Participant Portal Includes Powerful New Tools

Last quarter, we officially launched ERAC’s Plan Participant Portal, a one-stop shop for Plan Participant members to access all their emergency response plans, documents and correspondence.
Those who have logged in will likely notice we’ve added two powerful new applications to the portal...

E2 Plan Inquires Increase As Business Activities Return

The Emergency Response Planning group has been receiving regular inquiries and requests on environmental emergency (E2) planning at a steady rate. Some of the requests follow inspections and letters of enforcement from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

Incident Command System (ICS) Training

ERAC offers two versions of Incident Command System (ICS) training.
The ERAC versions of ICS 100 and 200 were developed to train our responders in the basics of ICS. This training is available free of charge to all Plan Participants and their employees, as well as first responders across Canada.

Training & Events

ERAC will be holding several regional training and assessment events across the country over the coming months.
