Give Thanks

Constantly giving thanks is a powerful and effective solution for overcoming anxiety.

Inspired by the Holy Spirit, Paul teaches us how to overcome anxiety. I call it the principle of replacement through the Holy Spirit. Simply put, you replace anxiety with thanksgiving and prayer. I know it may sound like a trite and cliché answer. But the truth is, it really works, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." (Philippians 4:6)

Here is how simple it is. When you are tempted to worry, immediately give thanks. The more you give thanks, the less you worry. The more you give thanks, the more you trust in God. The more you trust, the greater peace you will experience. Fill your heart and mind with thanksgiving, and anxiety will fade away.

The principle of replacement is powerful. The verse does not say, “Do not be anxious about anything…period, end of story.” The verse in effect teaches us to replace anxiety with something very powerful—"by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Anxiety is a terrible problem for many. It robs us of the joy of life. It harms us emotionally, physically and psychologically. The solution is simple. Through reliance on the Holy Spirit, replace anxiety with thanksgiving. Then you will have an abundance of joy and peace through the Holy Spirit.

Tuesday November 3rd
Election Day in America

The issues of the day change.

Political parties and platforms change.

God’s Word never changes.

The vote of every Christian should be based on the principles of Scripture and not persuasive personalities.

Special Prayer Events are an important part of our 2026 Ministry Focus. On Veteran's Day, Wednesday, November 11th we invite you to come to ERCC to pray for the lost. It will be a “come and go” event. The auditorium will be open for prayer from 7:00 am to 9:00 am.

You can stay and pray for 5 minutes or for 2 hours. Mostly it will be individual and silent prayer. You may also want to pray in small groups. You may pray however you feel comfortable—on your knees, sitting, prostrate on your face, or standing. There will be no devotional — only prayer.

Deadline for Christmas Shoeboxes
"Shoe Box" Ministry

The time is here for Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry!

Please take a box (or boxes), from the auditorium foyer, fill it with toys and goodies, then return it to the ERCC foyer by Sunday morning, November 22nd. Your donated box will be transported to a far away place somewhere in the world, and will be delivered to a child. The deadline for turning in your filled box is Sunday morning, November 22nd. Then Wendy and Edward Gideon will deliver them to the San Antonio collection site after the worship service that morning.

Please include $10 at the top of the box to cover shipping costs. You can also donate the $10 using this link or the Samaritans' Purse website which will also allow you to track your box to discover the country it was delivered to a child in need along with the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Ages before it was a popular theme in self-improvement and the business world, the Bible taught the importance of prioritization. Join us for Sundays in November when we'll dig into the Word of God to discover what is most important to God. You may be surprised by how much the Word of God emphasizes putting first things first.

Veterans — staring Sunday November 1st, please bring your military photo and place it on the table in the back of the auditorium for our congregation to view through Sunday, November 8th. Or, you may email a digital copy to pastor.mark.a.wright@gmail.com.

We want to recognize your service and sacrifice.

Annual Thanksgiving Dinner Sunday

Nov 15th, 6:00 pm

Our annual Thanksgiving dinner will be on Sunday, November 15th, at 6:00 pm in the fellowship hall. Several turkeys and hams are needed, as well as lots of side dishes, desserts or other fixin’s, so please sign up on the board in the foyer outside the auditorium or using the online Signup Genius form using this link: eversroadchristianchurch.org/thanksgiving. This is usually one of the most popular events of the year and a special time at ERCC. Join us!

Strong efforts to grow the youth ministry are continuing!

  • We've started a Thursday 6 pm Family Bible Study for all ages at the nearby Connally Apartment complex with hope that over time it will bring families to ERCC.
  • Counselors at Neff Middle School have approved our presence on campus, beginning with their "Trunk or Treat" on October 27th, which went very well.

After building some more rapport, we plan to get even more involved with both the apartment complex and the middle school. Lord willing, everything will continue to go as planned, and the Youth Ministry will grow swiftly.

Victory Oath
Sunday Night Youth Bible Study

January 3rd at 6:00 pm

We're waiting to start this until January to allow time for the youth ministry to grow and for our current families to prepare their schedules for this great step forward.

The goal is to help the youth grow in the Word of the Lord as they study the same Scriptures as the adults, while learning how to apply them in today's world. The world is a hard place for our youth to live, and it's even harder without Jesus.

Bring your youth in so they can learn how to navigate this thing we call life.

Outreach Event on Wednesday November 11th
Connally Apartments

Please join us for this exciting outreach by helping us prepare and fill “Thanksgiving goodie bags.” We'll meet in the ERCC fellowship hall on Wednesday, November 11th at 6 pm. You don’t need to bring anything. Just show up willing to lend a hand. The project should only take about 50 minutes.

Pastor Mark and Youth Ministry Director Julian will deliver these goodie bags to the doors of the children registered on our list at Connally apartments on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

We want to show the love of Jesus to our neighbors. It's our desire to build relationships and care for these people. This is a special outreach focused on youth and children. Let’s shine the light of Jesus into the darkness!

2027 Ministry Focus

Pray. Pray. Pray. We're asking God to lead us as we seek His Will for our 2027 Ministry Focus. First of all, pray. Then, if you have any suggestions, please share them with Pastor Wright or one the elders.

We seek to finalize the ministry plan for the new year by the first Sunday of January.

New Members Class

Sunday, November 8th

9:00 - 9:45 am

If you are a guest attending ERCC regularly, this single-session class is intended to provide you with important information about the congregation. We would love it if you were to decide to join our church family, but attendance doesn't commit you to join.

Pastor Wright will teach the class at 9:00 am on Sunday November 8th.

Tacos, donuts, coffee and juice are served at the 9:00 am hour.

The class will be held in the Education Building on the 2nd Floor.

Baptism Class

Sunday, November 15th

9:00 - 9:45 am

If you have yet to be baptized biblically, we invite you to join Pastor Wright on Sunday, November 15th at 9:00 am in the education building, 2nd floor. This is a single-session study, so please don't miss it. In this study you'll learn from Scripture that water baptism is for believers, it is by immersion, and it depicts the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. If you haven’t yet experienced Biblical baptism, you need to come to this class and you need to be baptized. As Ananias said to Saul, “And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.’” (Acts 22:16).

The study is intended to prepare you for water baptism.

Tacos, donuts, coffee and juice are served at the 9:00 am hour.

Mission Intern to Southeast Asia

In March God used ERCC to fund the mission internship of Charis Aberle. ERCC gave over $5,000 of the $7,000 needed for her mission internship. Charis was in Southeast Asia from May 29th through July 22th. Below is a report from Charis herself.

REPORT FROM CHARIS ABERLE

Hello Evers Road Christian Church,

First, I wanted to thank you for all of the support, financially and prayerfully. This summer would not have been possible for me without your faithfulness and generosity. This summer I spent 2 months in Southeast Asia working with a missionary family who has been there for 25+ years. I lived with a local muslim family who spoke little English, which brought both challenges and growth, helping me to learn the language and understand the culture better and quicker.

Most of my time was spent on relationship building, language school, teaching English, and supporting the local Christians. Very early on in my summer, I met a group of local muslim women and immediately became friends with them. I would see them multiple times a week, getting coffee, having them over for dinner, going to try new foods, and having both fun and intentional conversations. Additionally, each week I spent a few hours with kids in an underprivileged community who were not attending school or were behind. I would love on them, play with them, and teach them English. Ultimately, in a restricted area where I could not always express my faith through words, I prayed that my actions would reflect His love. I believe the Lord was faithful in providing opportunities for me to show His love to my friends, my host family, the children, and the missionaries.

This is a summer I will never forget. I learned, grew, and was challenged in deep ways. I thank Jesus for my brothers and sisters in Texas who were a part of this opportunity to shine Jesus' love in a dark place. Thank you for your prayers, generosity, and faithfulness. I am incredibly grateful for each of you!

Blessings,

Charis Aberle

We invite you to join our ERCC Facebook Group. It is one of our ministry objectives to use social media to reach more people. This is especially important in relation to young people today.

A few discussion ideas for using this forum are:

  • What's your favorite thing about church?
  • What is your favorite church event?
  • What was your favorite quote from the service last week?
  • Providing a Praise Report on an answered prayer

We also encourage you to post your ERCC pictures on this page.
