The changing of the season from summer to fall is welcome by many. For different reasons, people love fall. Fall brings cooler temperatures, pumpkin spice lattes, and of course, the start of football season. This time of year is a busy time for families and business alike, and this past month has been no exception.
Enid is a buzz with new investment, new projects, and tremendous enthusiasm for our community. From new business openings to planning for all of the exciting activities to come this Christmas Season, there is a lot going on. In order to support this growth we must be sharing the news of our great community and promoting the opportunities we have in Enid. ERDA is working on a number of initiatives to promote Enid, and the first of these efforts is an online, community-wide job board. Soon, job seekers will have one place to find available career opportunities across all industries in Enid. First and foremost, the new platform will be user-friendly for the job seeker. Secondarily, it will provide Enid businesses another way to reach qualified candidates. The one-stop shop will be an easy place for job seekers to find their next position in Enid, and it will give us a chance to advertise our Enid job openings across the country. More information on the job board will be out soon, so stay tuned!

Groendyke named Inbound Logistics Top 100 Trucker |
Inbound Logistics has named Groendyke Transport as a 2021 Top 100 Trucker.
With headquarters in Enid, Groendyke Transport is one of the largest tank truck carriers in the nation with 40 locations nationwide servicing the United States, Canada and Mexico. Groendyke also is the only eight-time winner of National Tank Truck Carriers North American Safety Champion Award for best safety record and program in the nation, most recently won for safety efforts in 2016 and 2018.

Maverick wind farm now serving PSO customers |
Congratulations to Public Service Company of Oklahoma on starting commercial operation at the Maverick wind farm. Located southwest of Enid, the 287-megawatt (MW) Maverick facility is part of the 1,485-MW North Central Energy Facilities (NCEF) project.
The North Central Energy Facilities (NCEF) represent a $2 billion investment in the state. The economic boost has created jobs in construction, operations and maintenance while generating increased revenues for schools across the project area, which includes Garfield County.
We appreciate PSO's investment in NW Oklahoma and to clean and renewable energy.

Congratulations to Hoover Elementary and Chisholm Middle School on being two of the six new National Blue Ribbon Schools in Oklahoma.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Every year the U. S. Department of Education seeks out and celebrates great American schools, schools demonstrating that all students can achieve to high levels. Now in its 39th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed more than 10,000 awards to over 9,000 schools, with some schools winning multiple awards. Schools are eligible for nomination after five years. The coveted National Blue Ribbon School award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.

Vance piloting new training program |
Vance Air Force Base continues to be a small base with global impact.
“I can look you straight in the eye and tell you there is no one even close to our pilots. It is our job to keep that gap closed. It starts at Vance Air Force Base,” Johnson said. “All of those C-17 missions you saw coming out of Afghanistan, one-third of those people came out of Vance Air Force Base. We are doing absolutely incredible things to make sure we keep our advantage on the world stage. We are working hard to do that every day.”

“All about exploration” Middle school flight course set for lift-off next semester |
Exposing students to different careers at a young age can open their eyes to the possibilities. We are excited about the partnership with Enid Public Schools and Vance Air Force Base to offer a Flight and Space course for middle school students.
In the class, students will learn to craft flight plans for airplanes ranging from small, personal ones to commercial- sized jumbos. They’ll then start making actual planes by trying to perfect paper airplanes before launching their own, as well as the bottle rockets. Eventually, the kids will plan a flight through space all the way to Mars.
As a community with a rich aviation history, we hope this course sparks interest in the next generation to consider careers in the aviation and aerospace field.

Used bookstore to reopen at new downtown location |
But owners Jim and Katrina Maughn had no idea they’d be expanding their used bookstore within two months of opening nearby.
“We were just outgrowing it,” Katrina said. “Everybody was bringing us all these books, but we had no way of getting them out to the public. … We were literally bursting at the seams.”
The store first opened on June 12 in a suite of the Posey Building, at 718 W. Broadway.
With books piling up at the location Katrina called a “hidden gem” of a location to start — and even on tables at her own home as a storage spot — she and Jim decided they needed more room.

Select Oklahoma Launches New Website |
Check out Select Oklahoma's new website!
The goal for the new website is provide information about the organization, as well as guiding new business opportunities to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce for location and expansion assistance. The site is a clearinghouse of information identifying members, leadership, education opportunities, and events supported by the organization.
