What happened with Carvykti® and why it matters to Canadians living with myeloma

Carvykti® (ciltacabtagene autoleucel, or cilta-cel) is a type of CAR T-cell therapy — a personalized immunotherapy designed to treat multiple myeloma. It’s been shown to help patients live longer, including those who have exhausted other treatment options, with some remaining in remission for more than five years after a single infusion.

Earlier this fall, national negotiations to secure public reimbursement for Carvykti® were terminated without agreement.

Without public funding, many patients face no option but continued, repeated therapies—each with their own risks, side effects, and costs.

Provincial and territorial decisionmakers must restart negotiations with the manufacturer and make Carvykti publicly accessible to all Canadians.

Tell your provincial/territorial representatives to restart Carvykti® negotiations and make patients the priority.

Spotlight on Francis Monize

In July 2020, my life changed forever. I was 68, retired from my career as an electrical engineer, and living in Mississauga, Ontario. I am originally from Guyana, South America, but I moved to Canada 55 years ago. I had always been pretty active. I used to play a lot of sports. Cricket was my passion, and I loved traveling with my spouse, Olney.
