We had another great day of worship this past Sunday. Thank you to David Malone and the Celebration Choir for the special music! We were excited to receive Beth Burns in the 8:30 service. Beth is already a faithful member whose name is on the church roll. But, Beth stated that she has realized that her actual salvation experience came after she was baptized, and she wants to get the order right and be re-baptized. I am so proud of Beth for her obedience to Christ. Someone may say, “Is it really that important to be re-baptized?” The answer is, “Yes, it is!” Jesus set the example for us to be baptized following salvation. If we compromise this act of obedience, what other compromises might we justify? If our relationship with Him is based upon compromises, then it must not be based on faith.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Thanksgiving reminds us to give God thanks for His many blessings. Then, that holiday is closely followed by Christmas, when we celebrate God’s greatest gift – Jesus!
I have to admit, I am a fan of Amazon. I love that I can shop for a Christmas present for my brother and sister-in-law, who live in North Carolina, have it placed in a gift bag, and then delivered – all with a few computer strokes! Sometime before Christmas they will receive the present I selected for them. They didn’t ask for it. They didn’t do anything to earn it. It is a gift that will arrive at no cost to them. I bought it and paid for it. The postage has even been paid! It will be delivered to their home, and all they have to do to make the gift theirs is to accept it. At the heart of Christmas is the reminder that Jesus’ birth represents the arrival of the gift God sent to everyone. The cost has already been paid on the cross. The gift is salvation, and in order to receive it, all we have to do is accept it.
This Sunday I will begin a sermon series entitled, Signed, Sealed, and Delivered. It will track God’s gift from promise, to purchase, to delivery. I hope you will make plans to be here every Sunday.
I am looking forward to seeing you Sunday for another great day in the Lord’s house!
You are Loved!
