I was so proud to see our Bible Drillers recognized on Sunday. Congratulations to Anna Kate Breland, Jenson Abercrombie, Jolie Abercrombie, Aiden Miltier, Lina Boe, and Madalynn Secondine! Also, thank you Faye Mardis (Director), Debbie & Joey Mitchell (Youth), and Lila Balch & Ann Archer (Children) for making a difference in these young lives through Bible Drill!
I can’t possibly thank everyone individually who contributed to such a successful Family Fall Festival 2023. But, I do want to mention Judy & Roger Meyers, and Rachel & Kim Davis along with the entire Family Fall Festival Committee for all their work on the gorgeous decorations, and in planning, organizing, constructing, setting up, and implementing the games and entertainment for the Festival. Also, thank you to Trish Penton and the Kitchen Krew for preparing and serving the food. I know these had lots of help, and I thank all of you as well for setting up, operating games, providing entertainment, and cleaning up (along with WHATEVER else needed to be done). I know at one point we had 43 volunteers signed up to bring chili and help in any way needed, and others were added by the Festival night. Also, thank you to everyone who donated candy and money to enable us to send all the kids home on a big sugar high! This was our first FFF in the new gym, and it was perfect. It accommodated 2 large inflatables, all the games, a ton of people, and had room to spare! Congratulations to Denise Messa for winning the Chili Cookoff 2 years in a row!
In case you may not have noticed, Charlie Culver, Roger Whitney, Mickey Clogher, Bob Hancock, Damon Devore, and Ray Lopez have been refinishing the woodgrain portions of our pews. A negative side effect of cleaning the pews and treating them with disinfectant between services during the COVID era is that it damaged the finish on the wooden endcaps and railings of the pews. Thank you, men, for all your work in restoring the stained finish. They look beautiful!
Thank you for allowing Rhys and me to attend the 187th Annual Meeting of the Mississippi Baptist Convention in Jackson as your messengers. Bill Hurt, Senior Pastor of Pleasant Hill B.C. in Columbus, was elected as president. He will serve for 1 year, with eligibility to be re-elected for 1 additional year. The worship in music was led this year by the Combined Baptist University Choirs and Orchestra (William Carey University, Mississippi College, and Blue Mountain Christian University). The business sessions were interspersed with worship through singing, Bible Treasures, testimonies, and great preaching. Of special note, the MBCB Sexual Abuse Response Team presented the culmination of their work in a publication entitled, Sexual Abuse Prevention and Response Guide. This publication provides guidelines and advice to churches in establishing and implementing policies and procedures that will enable our churches to be proactive in making our churches safe from abuse. This puts Mississippi Baptists on the leading edge among Southern Baptists in the adoption of formal sexual abuse prevention, response, and care guidelines.
Finally, remember that international evangelist Brian Tyndall will be back with us this Sunday, October 29th, to lead our revival services at 8:30 & 11:00am, and 6:00pm. Please invite everyone you know. And, don’t forget your Prayer Vigil time-slot commitment, and pray, pray, pray!
You are Loved!
