How is education impacting the future workforce?

The Education Committee has been exploring this question in depth. The mantra over the past few decades has been that a student's future is reliant on a four year univerisity education. In fact, a number of school trade programs were discontinued in favor of pushing students in academics.

Thankfully, many of the trades have returned and students have an opportunity to develop skills that can lead to a great career directly out of high school. Orange Glen HS has a state of the art kitchen where students receive hands on culinary arts education and experience. San Pasqual HS offers welding and wood working as well as Agriculture. Del Lago Academy scholars are learning science and health care both on campus and through their partnership with Palomar Health.

These are just a few examples of trades that are in high demand with long term career potential. For a more indepth look at how education is developing the workforce, the Escondido Chamber is hosting the first  Connecting Business to Educatoin Summit on October 3rd. We invite you to join us for this special event. You will also have an opportunity to expolore the Del Lago Academy campus with a student lead tour.

I look forward to seeing you at the Summit!

Rebuilding After The Lilac Fire
Last December's Lilac Fire that devastated 4,100 acres in the Bonsall/Fallbrook area of my district, destroyed over 157 structures, including 75 manufactured/modular homes in Rancho Monserate  Country Club, a 55+ resident-owned community near Fallbrook.
When the fire struck at Dulin Road along Old Hwy 395, the close-knit community had about 400 residents living in 232 manufactured homes.  Though the fire spread quickly, residents were evacuated in record time, many with just their pets and the clothes they were wearing.  A vibrant, thriving community, Rancho Monserate residents enjoy regular outings, line dancing and Tuesday poker games. For years, services have been held in the adobe chapel dating back to Rancho Monserate's early land grant days.
