Service is defined as; the action of helping or doing work for someone. Ok, today, I had to remind myself what service means as I'm so frustrated with the lack of service. I say this because I'm finding it everywhere, or rather the lack of service. When was the last time you showed up for a doctor's appointment, and at the exact time of your appointment was seen? Not sure about you but I can answer that question easily, never. I suppose that's not a service issue but rather a respect issue. Respect for your time as well as your doctor's should be the outcome and not the surprise. And I'm not just picking on our medical providers; there are plenty of examples all around me to help make my point. How about the last time you heard a thank you that felt purposeful and sincere from your pharmacist or bank teller? It's gotten to the point that the
"thank you" we receive from most people is an automated response and lacks any real commitment. We all have choices but only limited time. We can choose a different provider but, that's not a simple solution, not when you consider the process it takes to make changes, all at
the cost of our time with no guarantee that the results will be any different.
So what to do? We could just ease back and take a laid back approach and just let it go, be cool, don't stress, it's all good. Maybe that's the solution. Let's chalk it up to experience and move along, nothing going on here, sir, so move along. Or, we take a moment, a teaching moment, to politely push back and make people aware whether that be your Doctor, auto mechanic, or insurance agent that you're not satisfied with your service, and here's what you
can do to correct this. Manage expectations. And, be prepared to walk. If someone is not able to meet your expectations you either lower those expectations or you find another provider. We all have choices.
You also have choices when it comes to membership organizations. This is what drives us at the Chamber to work hard to meet expectations, exceed expectations, and put meaning behind our actions and words. We know you have options when it comes to services and advocacy
organizations. We work to deliver real value for your support. So, when you do make a choice to be a member of the Escondido Chamber of Commerce we deliver real value and support. Know this; we are respectfully thankful for your time and support.

Fall Grand Avenue Festival
~~~ THIS SUNDAY ~~~
Did you attend the May Grand Avenue Festival? If you did, there is something you will not need this weekend - an umbrella! That's because we're going to have some beautiful Escondido Chamber of Commerce weather, as we present the fall Grand Avenue Festival on Sunday!
Get ready for another fantastic community event where you'll be able to stroll up and down historic Grand Avenue enjoying a wide variety of vendors, food,
performers and events.
On the Chase lawn you'll find The Super Dentists stage where there will be dog contests in the morning (10am-11am), belly dancing, singing, and other performances. Including a demonstration from the Escondido Police K9 Unit at 1:30pm that you won't want to miss!
At the other end of Grand Avenue will be "Art in the Garden" at Heritage Garden. There you will be able browse a juried Art Show, check out a "pop-up" vinyl record store, listen to a variety of musicians, and possibly win a pizza from Shakey's or Filippi's at the Pizza Walk.
Of course, you can't miss the SDG&E stage centrally located at Maple Street Plaza. That will be the site for a large number of community acts and performers such as the YMCA Twirlers, Georgia's School of Dance, Ballet Folklorico, Patio Playhouse, Star Repertory Theater,
and many more.
So make plans now to come out on Sunday to historic downtown Escondido, bring some friends and family...including the furry ones, and enjoy the tradition of the Grand Avenue Festival!
ESCONDIDO LOCAL NEWS & HAPPENINGS
|
The Senate Bill 1 gas tax increase promised to fix our crumbling highways and roads. That promise was short-lived.
Last month, Governor Newsom issued an Executive Order redirecting the state's $5 billion annual transportation funds from highway/road repairs toward reducing congestion via "strategies designed to
encourage people to shift from cars to other modes of transportation" including mass transit, walking and biking, the governor's executive order said. The order also calls for $61 million to be "held in reserve for priority rail projects."
This is in addition to the billions of dollars which have continued to be diverted from the transportation fund since 2010 - no wonder our traffic congestion is as bad as it is! If the funds collected to upgrade our roadways had been used for that purpose, we would not need to keep increasing taxes. In fact, we would have more than enough.
The SB1 gas tax did not plan to add one freeway mile to reduce congestion, but it did commit to repair our local roads and highways, and support parks and boats. Now, even that is uncertain thanks to the Governor's Executive Order...
Business Seminar: LEED for Restaurant & Retail Spaces
Is your business a leader in sustainability? Being certified in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®)
can distinguish you from the competition. SDGE offers no-cost classes to get you on the road to
success. Nearly 100 national and independent retailers and franchisees, including Chipotle, McDonald's,
Pizza Fusion and Starbucks, have achieved LEED® Certification for many of their retail spaces.
Restaurant and retail spaces have unique considerations, including occupancy demands, waste streams, and energy
and water use, that warrant a more niche and specific LEED® offering. Alex Spilger, founder of GreenStep, will be teaching this class at SDG&E's Energy Innovation Center. Alex has consulted with and helped many high-profile businesses nationwide to achieve their LEED® goals.
