I've found myself struggling to find the right message to convey this week. Let me explain why. I'm an optimist, a believer in "put it out there," work honestly, fairly, and do no harm approach to life. A little Pollyannaish I admit, but it works for me; it's my choice. I try to approach each day with this in mind. My attitude is the one thing I can control, and I choose to have a positive one.
This is tempered with a risk I take in believing in people, believing that in everyone; there is a fundamental base of good. I want to believe in someone or something; trust. And so I trust many, not all but most. I've addressed this before in this newsletter.
I came into this role here at the Chamber with this attitude, and I'm not changing. I have faith in the Escondido business community. After all what is the Escondido business community? Locally one could argue It's a collection of people who have taken the risk of investing resources in offering either a product or service and choose to be here in Escondido. The risks are as varied as the entrepreneur's themselves but, they are real. Without these gamblers, these risk takers, these visionaries large and small Escondido would not be the community it is, and this State would not be the 5th largest economy in the world and our country the most powerful.
The Chamber is similar in that we are made up of people in our community who are taking a risk that if they invest in their time and money into the Chamber, it will have real value. Value is an individual measure. We work to deliver on the value of the Chamber. And, we work for the betterment of the whole Escondido community. We trust each other, and we trust others in our community. We want to give everyone a chance, a fresh beginning.
The Chamber has Escondido's back. And, thank you to those of you who have the Chamber's back. The trustworthy far outweigh any others.
Cheers,

As a member of the Select Committee on Biotechnology and Co-Chair of the Rare Disease Caucus, I'm always looking for innovative treatments that provide the greatest benefit for patients at the lowest possible cost to taxpayers.
That's why I'm enthusiastic about Project Baby Bear, a $2 million Medi-Cal funded pilot program at several hospitals, including San Diego's Rady Children's Hospital, to provide rapid whole-genome sequencing (rWGS) to seriously ill newborns. To learn more about this trial program, I recently attended a hearing of the Select Committee on Biotechnology with Committee Chair Kevin Mullin, Assemblymember Todd Gloria and Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins at Illumina's headquarters in La Jolla. Early results are very
encouraging.
As of August 31st Project Baby Bear has performed rapid whole-genome sequencing...
