Letter from Marie Waldron

Lilac Fire Aftermath
By Assemblymember Marie Waldron
On December 7, Governor Brown declared a state of emergency for San Diego County. His proclamation directs the Office of Emergency Services (OES) and all agencies of state government, including the National Guard, to provide state assistance such as  personnel, equipment and facilities that may be required to combat the Lilac Fire.

I am excited to announce that our Education Committee is back, under the leadership of Dr. Luis Ibarra, Superintendent, EUSD.

The committee will focus on connecting Education with Business through many factors including:
  • High School and Jr. High Internships
  • Community Service Hours for HS Seniors
  • Engaging with Business Leaders to connect workforce needs with educational requirements.
  • Dr. Ibarra
    Dr. Luis Ibarra
Enriching the education process from Career Days to Student Mentoring

A data base of businesses who wish to participate in the education of the Escondido youth will be created in order to easily connect the requests with the resources.

The committee will culminate the year by honoring outstanding educational leaders from teachers to administrators.

If you are interested in participating in this committee, join us for a kick off meeting on Monday, January 8 at noon at the Escondido Chamber of Commerce. We invite those in education and business!

We would first like to thank The Grand Tea Room for participating as a Community Partner in our 7th Annual Community in Unity event!  The Grand Tea Room is a full service tea room and gift shop located in the historical downtown district of Escondido, California.  Elegant, cozy and filled with ambiance, their elegantly decorated salon provides the perfect setting for a relaxing afternoon treat with friends and family.  What a better way to celebrate a special event than with the warmth of a beautiful celebration tea!

We would love to thank everyone who came out to
Community in Unity on December 7th.

We collected over 200 pairs of pajamas and toys, which we will be donating to Rady Children's Hospital and The Boys and Girls Club of Escondido.

We were also able to donate $4,000.00 to the Police Athletic League.

We would especially like to thank our Event Sponsors, Community Partners, Community Donors, and our Community for making this event special!
