Best word to describe the State of the City this morning?

We had record breaking attendance with close to 450 people packed into the Center for the Arts in support of the City Council and their Awardees.

Thank you to our sponsors: AT&T, LFAP, Banner Bank, Newland, CCAE, NSDCAR, Palomar College Foundation, COX, Rancho Computer Networks, CSUSM, Safari Highlands,  Scripps, EDI, SDG&E, Erickson-Hall Construction, Shuster Oil, Howes Weiler Landy, Toolshed Equipment Rental, Integral Communities, The Escondido Charitable Foundation and Weir Asphalt for partnering with us for this important event.

After the Color Guard presented the flag, Father Ken Del Priore gave an in-depth invocation and "2018 San Diego Idol" contestant Erica Champagne belted out the national anthem, and Chairwoman of the Escondido Chamber Board, Kristen Steinke inspired us, the council honored the following individuals for their commitment to our community:

William Toone - Environmental Education
Bob & Louisa Magoon - Business
Morgan Lundy - Inspiration
Glen Brouwer - Service Above Self
Dennis O'Sullivan - Community
Marie Tuck - Historic Preservation
Queen Claifia Docents - Arts
Matt & Carrie Foster - Service to Veterans
Phil Henry of Henry Avocado -
Mayor's Leadership Award

Mayor Paul McNamara closed the morning with a glimpse into the future of Escondido by looking to our past. Escondido's foundation was built on agriculture and it will remain an economic driver for our community. So how do we combine the hard work and values of farming with the advances in technology? Maybe through vertical farms which use less resources and produce greater crops. The stakeholders are at the table discussing the possibilities.

Needless to say, we live in a great city and  as the Master of Ceremonies, Irv Erdos,  reminded us, Escondido is the CITY OF CHOICE!
