November of 2012.
I remember it well. My friend who is also the CPA for the chamber called and asked "What are you doing?"
Little did I know that her question would change the course of my life for the next six years.
The chamber had an immediate need and she knew that I had the right skills. So I started working here part time as the book keeper. Part time quickly changed to full time with a plethora of responsibilities. One year later, I had the honor of being promoted to CEO with January 2019 marking my five year anniversary.
We have accomplished a lot in what now seems like a short time. The chamber is fiscally sound, membership is increasing, the Ambassadors are strong and active and the Board of Directors are engaged and impacting the business community. We launched the Rising Star Students of the Month and awarded $14,000 in scholarships in our first year.
The future is bright as well. The Veteran Business Incubator, hosted here at the chamber is launching soon. The Chamber visibility is increasing substantially as we are the go-to organization for the business pulse in Escondido.
But what I treasure most are the relationships. Working everyday with you has been a true blessing. However, life has a way of changing and sometimes even good things must come to an end as my husband and I made the bitter sweet decision to move back to Tucson this June.
Though I only have a few more months with you, I am committed to leaving the chamber ready for the next leader who will take this organization even further.
A search for the new CEO is underway. The Board of Directors will be conducting interviews in April in the hopes of hiring a CEO by May 1st.
I am sad to be leaving my post. I trust that the new CEO will be as warmly welcomed as I have been. I hope that you will join us on June 14th for the annual dinner as this will be my final event as well as the first event for my replacement.
With warm regards,
Rorie Johnston

Daley Ranch & Escondido Creek Conservancy Seek Request For Proposals!
The nonprofit Escondido Creek Conservancy (ECC), in partnership with the Friends Of Daley Ranch (FODR), has received a
small grant to investigate the creation of a youth interpretive center and/or primitive campground on/near the site of the "White building" (bunk house). The goal of re-purposing the site is to provide activities for youth groups, especially those groups providing opportunities to local low-income youth, to enjoy unique outdoor educational opportunities at Daley Ranch. The ECC and the FODR are seeking a planning consultant to help develop a strategy to re-purpose the site for youth activities, consistent with the Daley Ranch Master Plan.
They are seeking a consultant with a passion for this work, who will make the most of limited funds to help create a project, consistent with the City of Escondido's Master Plan for Daley Ranch, that will help create life-changing outdoor adventures for thousands of young people for decades to come.
