T
reating people in a positive manner that acknowledges them for who they are and/or what they are doing. Being treated or treating an individual in a dignified manner. Respect is earned and is never just given.
BUT, you must give respect to receive
respect. Meaning when you interact with an individual you treat them with dignity and in a respectful manner as this shows your character as a person. This is the definition of respect according to the Urban Dictionary.
Ok, I hope you can see what I'm trying to convey here. We are members of this community, and yes even though I don't have my home here I feel as much a part of this community as anyone. I've developed a deep respect for Escondidians. And, it only gets stronger each day. Immersing myself into the lifeblood of this community through the Chamber has enlightened me. I see what the good people of Escondido are doing each day beyond their families, their jobs; they're giving back to their Escondido. Respecting each other and contributing in whatever way they can to make our City the best community possible. I get a sense of this community wanting to do better, wanting more for their families, their neighbors and their City. Oh, we've got plenty of 21st century problems but we're not shying away from them, we're acknowledging them and we are committed to improving. Let's build our community up and not tear it down. Let's continue to show respect to each other, respect our differences and celebrate that which unites us; our Community.
Your Chamber helped celebrate several key ribbon cuttings this past week. Thank you to Juan at Kalavera Cocina Cantina (former Anejo Bar & Grill), and thank you to Ralph and the good people at the Quality Inn (formerly Mt. Vernon Inn) for allowing the Chamber to be a part of your Re-Grand Openings. Support and respect your Chamber members as we welcome these new additions and renovations to our Community.
And as Aretha Franklin famously made clear "respect" yourself.
Sincerely,
CEO

21st Annual Chamber Challenge Golf Tournament
Friday, September 27th!
Do you enjoy waking up early and joining friends, business associates, and community leaders for a nice relaxing round of golf? Now what if that round of golf just happened to take place on a Friday morning...to start the weekend? And what if that round of golf, on an early Friday morning, helped to support the kids and programs at the Escondido Police Athletic League?
That sounds like not only a great time, but a great way to support an awesome charity organization right here in the Escondido community. And you'll have the opportunity to do just on Friday, September 27
th
as the Escondido Chamber of Commerce holds their 21st

The day will start off with some great food, drinks, and a putting contest followed by the scramble-format tournament. Improving Mental Health Treatment
As the legislature adjourns for the year, I'm happy to report that two significant bills impacting mental health treatments in California are heading to the Governor's desk.
This session I introduced Assembly Bill 1352, legislation that strengthens the voice of local mental health boards to help meet the needs of the mentally ill. The Bronzan-McCorquodale Act requires county mental health systems to provide services to those with serious emotional disturbance or mental illness. The Act also created local mental health boards, responsible for reviewing community needs and services. The boards act in an advisory capacity, and were intended to connect family members, patients and the community to county Boards of Supervisors and local mental/behavioral health directors, all for the purpose of improving community mental health systems. Unfortunately, over the years their role has been marginalized. My bill will bring a broader perspective to local mental health boards, along with increased community impact and greater transparency...
