"It's time to say goodbye, but I think goodbyes are sad and I'd much rather say hello.
Hello to a new adventure." - Ernie Harwell
That’s one of the reasons that I love the Italian word “Ciao”; it’s used for both hello and goodbye. And right now we are saying both.
Ciao to Marguerite, our wonderful Communications Director (at right). I'm sad that I have to say goodbye to one of the best coworkers and team members that I've had the privilege of working with. And, I'm excited that she gets to say hello to her next adventure in her new home. Marguerite has been the talent behind our newly-designed SierraScapes newsletter, as well as our new website – which has just launched ( check it out here! ). I’m incredibly proud, and I’m sure she will tackle this newest adventure with the same passion and dedication that she has displayed during her time with ESLT. (If you want to reach out and wish her well, you can still get in touch with her at .)
And Ciao to Jamie Della, Jane Gabriel, and Amanda Jaramillo! Please help me welcome these new part-time team members to ESLT. Learn more about them below, and feel free to reach out and welcome them via email if you’d like.
As I watch the leaves start to bud out and turn the trees into that special color of spring, I’m so grateful for the opportunity to work each and every day to protect a place that, as my nephew once said, “makes my heart sing.”
Thank you for allowing conservation in our area to “spring forward.” I hope to see you soon at one of our many upcoming events!

With gratitude,

Kay Ogden, Executive Director

Proposition 68:
Investing in our Future
This June, California residents will vote on a game-changing initiative in local conservation. Proposition 68, the Clean Water and Safe Parks Act, will put $4 billion to work to address our state’s most critical water, park, and natural resource needs. It invests $142 million in conservation and natural resource protection in our Sierra/Cascade region alone: more than any previous legislative bond measure.

Vote #Yeson68 !
Regional Conservation Partnership:
Livestock in Harmony with Bi-state Sage-grouse
Funding is now available to ranchers in our area to help improve sage-grouse habitat and water quality on their land. The USDA's Regional Conservation Partnership Program has created an $8 million fund to support conservation initiatives in our region. ESLT spearheaded this funding req uest with ten other partners, and we're looking forward to assis ting families in our area who want to protect wetlands, conserve habitat, and safeguard their working ranches against development.
The Seeds of Conservation
Begin with You
Every time you support conservation, you’re planting a seed – and seeds of every size can grow and bloom into something remarkable. Plant a seed today with a donation to boost conservation in the Eastern Sierra! Plus, donate by May 31 and you'll be entered in a raffle to win a matted, framed print of the beautiful photo at right, taken by award-winning photographer and fellow ESLT member Alan Barlow.
