I love this time of year... I think I say that every season, but this time is special. The days are warm and sunny, the nights crisp and clear, and the trees range from deep red and purple to orange and gold.
As nature turns from the vibrancy of summer to the calmness of autumn, I feel my soul doing the same thing. I find myself turning inward - making soups and curries, collecting wood to warm the house in winter, and thinking of family and the upcoming holidays.
I hope that your world is filled with the beauty of autumn - whether it's the leaves in your yard that are turning or if it's your personal inward turn to a quieter time.
Happy autumn!

Kay Ogden,  Executive Director

Stewardship Associate Andrew Ehlert describes what drives bighorn sheep's fall migration .
"As fall settles in the Eastern Sierra, we humans are making the change from hiking at high elevations and jumping in alpine lakes to bundling up in sweaters and jackets and enjoying fall colors. Meanwhile, other animals are also responding to the seasonal change in temperature and daylight.
"Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis sierrae) migrate at this time of year driven by the pursuit of forage. These sheep are creatures of habit when it comes to habitat..."
'Tis the Season for Leaf-Peeping!

Bishop Visitor Center has prepared two guides to help you "find fall colors and inner peace."
Have you noticed the mountainsides shifting to a mosaic of reds, ochres, and umbers? It's time to lace up those boots and look at leaves! This fall color guide and accompanying courtesy guide can help you discover magical Sierra colors.

Bishop Visitor Center also shared their tips for staying respectful of other "leaf-peepers" as they call them, while you're out tromping through foliage. Onwards and enjoy!
It's migration season - make sure to drive carefully.
Mule deer, pronghorn, and more are migrating.
Please slow down and watch out for them on the road!

We're participating in Giving Tuesday this year! Will you? It will be an exciting day of online engagement, filled with inspiring stories from your fellow Eastern Sierra Protectors. Will you share what makes your Eastern Sierra so special? We'd love to hear your stories. Please reach out and let's share the inspiration on #GivingTuesday!
Thank you for being a part of the ESLT family! With the help of landowners, volunteers, members, and supporters like you, we're making a difference for the future of the Eastern Sierra.
