MERRY CHRISTMAS from your school in Quebec!
SO MUCH has and is happening here.
PLEASE take the time to read all the good news.
Thank you for keeping up your fruitful friendship towards ETEQ, your prayers and your financial support.

Dr. Jean Martin, president
ETEQ is a focused adventure in Quebec missions through Theological Education. We offer students « outings into the Church and the world » where Scripture helps us to rethink the place of the Church in our Quebec society. We are sponsored by two visionary Church families (The Alliance and The Mennonite Brethren) and are in partnership with Université Laval’s (UL) Theology Department from which our graduates receive their degrees. Christmas reminds us that divinity has entered humanity so as to rescue individuals and nations. Jesus who is God with us has also become us (Incarnation). ETEQ trains disciples for a holy and proximate presence in this confused and lonely world. We fully claim and rejoice in the Great News of Christmas.

Growing Student Body

Since 2011, ETEQ continues to grow, this pandemic year being no exception. Our 15 Autumn courses are strictly online. This chart shows the fruit of your support. We value your continued contribution. We believe God is stretching us. So we turn to you, our partners, and ask you to stretch with us!

Doctorate Level (Hot Off The Press)

The UL Theology department is impressed by the quality of our ETEQ Faculty and by the academic success of our Master students. At the last UL graduation, 6 of their 8 M.A. in Theology students were our very own, first-ever, ETEQ M.A. graduates. More yet, we have just signed off on an agreement with UL to partner at the PhD level. Would you help us financially, perhaps increasing your donation, to walk into this open door?
Meet Our New Academic Dean

Dr. Jean-Christophe Bieselaar has served as our Director for Graduate Studies since 2016 when he moved with his family from Paris. His PhD in Theology (Intercultural Studies as applied to Family and Marriage) was earned at King’s College London in England. He has pastored many years in New York, Paris and Gatineau (QC).
Finances
Remember ETEQ during this Christmas season and end-of-year! This ministry is a worthy investment.

  • We have reduced salary costs by $10,000 a month all the while increasing the academic portion of those costs. Some leadership have volunteered to take a 30% cut in salary over 12 months to solidify our situation.
  • Because of COVID-19, 4 staff saw their hours reduced from May to August. These were restored in September.
  • We need $290,000 in total donations over this year if we are to meet our 2020-2021 budget of $878,000. We we have received $73,677 in donations. Would you consider making a special Christmas gift and even designate some of your giving for the new doctorate program?

Students Who Love To Learn
Fabienne Beauséjour, Master level - After three years at ETEQ, I am convinced that the formation I am receiving compares to any renowned Theological school. Also, I have had the privilege of being part of a true fellowshipping community. ETEQ is a hidden treasure.
Marie Girard, Undergraduate - The quality of its programs, intellectual rigour and the staff’s dedication make ETEQ a choice institution. Excellent teaching has enabled me to expand my biblical knowledge and bring it to life. I am prepared to interact with this present generation.
Abdias Adam, Undergraduate - ETEQ is a family in Christ, working together for Kingdom advancement in the midst of cultural and denominational differences. It provides a greater understanding of the Word and the ability to let the Scriptures impact one’s own walk with God.
Nancy Onyedim, Undergraduate - My enrolment at ETEQ was an answer to prayer, just as the Psalmist said “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law”(Ps119:18). I have been enabled to connect many dots in my understanding of Scripture and grow spiritually.
André Daigneault, Master level - ETEQ’s mission is summed up by love for God and neighbour. ETEQ nurtures Evangelical understanding that is intellectual and spiritual. From the start, my area of study was considered worthwhile. I am being well coached in that endeavour.
Hervé Mboumba, Master level - At ETEQ, we bow down before the Great Potter, Jesus-Christ. But to become the «clay»I had to trust the men and women God placed on my path,. I have not been left on my own and have had supervision and care from those who seek my success.
Max Chau, Undergraduate - The teachers at ETEQ have a fine balance between academic rigour and pastoral experience. I am also very thankful that ETEQ has helped me develop a broader perspective and understanding of what it means to spread the Gospel inter-culturally.
Daniel Gahunde, Master level - ETEQ provides both academic and spiritual formation. I appreciate the practical components which I connect to my present pastoral ministry. I am thankful for close-knit relationships developed with students and for the service of teachers and staff.
Anne Lalonde, Undergraduate - ETEQ has helped me develop qualities and attributes to articulate my faith, deepen my relationship with God and acquire knowledge that serves my community. My words and deeds are now a more powerful reflection of my spiritual journey.
Molyna Roy, Undergraduate - I arrived with zeal but little knowledge. I was helped to think through my faith and understand the importance of academics. I now have a methodology to think critically about ecclesiology, evangelism, Bible study and mentoring those who suffer. ETEQ professors have contributed to develop the intellectual component of my faith.
Peter James Benjamin, Master level - The ETEQ faculty have modeled a deep commitment to Christ, expressed as a service to the Church through scholarship. I participate in an academic community whose work is motivated by the desire for God’s Kingdom to come and God’s will to be done on earth.
Josette Gouredji, Undergraduate - People were wrong to say that Theological Studies would destroy my faith. I have been strengthened in my knowledge of the Biblical texts and in my capacity for Church service. In addition, ETEQ’s multiculturalism lets me see how others cultures live out their faith!
Professors Who Love To Teach
Barry Whatley, Lecturer in Spirituality and Missions, Interim Pastor Église ACM de Rimouski - I teach every Fall a course on Christian spirituality that brings together students from many backgrounds – all serving the Church in Québec, all hungry to grow spiritually. I am constantly reminded how much this dynamic new generation of Québécois leaders is a gift to the Church. It’s a joy to serve them.
David Miller, Professor in Theology, Director Center for Anabaptist Studies, Pastor Église L’Intersection - In this challenging time, it is inspiring to me to see the commitment of students as they seek to deepen their understanding of faith in Christ. As I prepare teaching sessions, I am reminded of the impact that they have in their churches, in their families and in Quebec society.
Dom Ruso, Lecturer in Church History, Pastor One-Eighty Church - At ETEQ, we guide students to think carefully about the Christian faith, an essential responsibility for serious theological reflection. It is a joy to see students mature in how they think and a privilege to journey with students who know that God wants to use them to see our world change in God-honoring ways.
Martin Bellerose, Lecturer in Practical Theology and Church Fathers, Église l’Oasis - Teaching theology is my answer to the call of God. I serve in the Christian University milieu with the gifts that the Spirit has imparted to me, with the desire He put in my heart to teach His Word and articulate its doctrine. By the formation of men and women, the Lord uses me for the edification of His Church in Quebec.
For me, this is a huge blessing!
Stéphane Rhéaume, Lecturer in Theology & Ethics, Pastor Église Chrétienne Évangélique de St-Eustache - The Church must inspire confidence, do good and contribute to the Kingdom of God. ETEQ invites students to a faith that is authentic, balanced, intelligent, accessible and engaged so that the Evangelical Church may be present, visible and credible. I am part of a school that combines academic rigour and spiritual living and does theology while serving the Church and its mission in the world.
Marc J. Debanné, Lecturer in Bible and Theology, Pastor L’Église l’Oasis - The theological reason I serve at ETEQ is that it is an important manifestation of the Church, situated halfway between the local Church and the universal Church, the intermediate zone where God raises structures that bring local Churches together to further the Kingdom of God. Here, Christians from different Churches joyfully work together to understand and worship God and be better equipped for effective work
Justin-Robert Mabiala Kenzo, Lecturer in Theology, District Superintendent C&MA in Quebec - I am convinced that the next chapter in the history of the Quebec Church will be written by a new generation of committed, creative and well-trained leaders. The Church must invest in young adults and do so both theologically and practically. Many institutions do one or the other well, not both. The Church needs «thinking practioners» and this is what ETEQ produces. Truly, ETEQ is one of a kind.
