ETFO ELHT End of School Year Update and Renewal

Dear ETFO ELHT Teacher/LTO Plan Member,

1.ETFO ELHT 2021 Teacher/LTO Benefits Plan Renewal

The ETFO ELHT Benefits Plan renews effective September 1st of each year. September 1, 2021 is the fourth renewal of our plan. 
If you are actively working in a 1.0 FTE position, you are not affected by these rate changes.
 
After thorough analysis of plan usage, experience, funding, and rising dental and health care costs, the ETFO ELHT Board of Trustees approved the September 1, 2021 Renewal. As a result, the Basic Life, Extended Health and Dental rates will be adjusted as follows effective September 1, 2021:

  • Basic Life insurance rate will decrease by 35%
  • Members actively at work will not be affected by the rate decrease as the ETFO ELHT covers this cost on behalf of plan members. However, it will result in a decrease to the taxable amount reported on your 2021 T4A.
  • Extended Health rates will increase by 4%
  • Dental rates will increase by 4%
  • No rate changes for: Supplemental or Optional Life (member/spouse/child), or Accidental Death and Dismemberment

These rate changes will only affect:
  • Members on non-statutory leaves (e.g. unpaid leaves, member funded leaves, LTD after 24 months) who pay for their Health, Dental, and/or Basic Life premiums
  • Part-time teachers who pay a pro-rated share of their Health and Dental premiums
* 0.5 part-time Member cost or 1.0 refers to a Member on a full-time non-statutory/unpaid leave
 Rates include taxes. Rates are subject to change annually.
1Basic Life rates are per $1,000 of coverage and are based on an $80,000 salary

If you are affected by the above changes, you will receive an OTIP notice to inform you that your benefit premiums have changed prior to the first increased deduction in the fall.

2.ETFO ELHT Annual Plan Member Meeting - Save the Date

The Board of Trustees for the ETFO Employee Life and Health Trust (ELHT) invites you to attend the 4th ETFO ELHT Annual Plan Member Meeting, scheduled for September 23, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. This will be a virtual meeting, and all ETFO members who are eligible for the ETFO ELHT Benefits Plan may participate through a live audio stream. The ELHT Board of Trustees will provide their yearly update based on the 2020 Annual Report, which is also posted on the website. A reminder with the meeting link will be sent to members in early September.

3.ETFO ELHT Online Claims - Mandatory Receipts

Effective September 1, 2021, all Extended Health Care and Dental Care claims must include a receipt, even if you submit a claim(s) electronically via My Claims. This means that all Extended Health Care and Dental Care claims that you submit after September 1 will need a receipt, regardless of when the expense was incurred under the ETFO ELHT Benefits Plan. For more information, click here.

4.Direct Billing for Premiums - Long-Term Occasional Teachers

Effective September 1, 2021, the ETFO ELHT will be moving from payroll deductions to pre-authorized debits to collect benefit premiums from Long-Term Occasional Teachers (LTOs). This change will only impact LTOs who (1) are working in part-time positions and opt into Health and/or Dental coverage and/or (2) LTOs who opt into optional life insurance coverage. This does not increase the cost to those plan members, but will reduce billing delays for LTOs during their transition into and out of the plan. Action will be required for eligible LTOs to add their banking information when they enrol for ELHT benefits beginning in September 2021.
