THERE ARE STILL 36!!!

THERE ARE STILL 36 AAAR MEMBERS WHO EITHER:

  1. Have NOT taken a Code of Ethics training class during Cycle 7
  2. Have NOT sent documentation to AAAR of a Code of Ethics training class that they have taken so that we can record it in the NAR database

AND, IF YOU'RE RECEIVING THIS EMAIL, YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE 36 READ THE INFORMATION BELOW TO FIND OUT HOW TO GET YOUR NAME OFF THIS EMAIL DISTRIBUTION LIST.

Because January 1, 2025, is a holiday, you have an extra day to complete the training. If you haven't completed it by Thursday, January 2nd, at 9:00 a.m. AND/OR haven't sent me documentation of completion, your REALTOR membership will be suspended until such time as the Cycle 7 Code of Ethics training has been completed (as described below).

NAR CODE OF ETHICS TRAINING REQUIREMENT

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE RECEIVING THIS EMAIL, WE DO NOT HAVE RECORD THAT YOU HAVE COMPLETED COE TRAINING FOR THE CURRENT CYCLE.

There are 36 primary AAAR members who have not completed Code of Ethics training (or have not submitted documentation to me).Your REALTOR membership will be suspended on January 12, 2025, if the training is not completed. Please see below for your options.

Deadline for compliance with the CURRENT Cycle: December 31, 2024

The National Association of REALTORS requires all REALTORS (except REALTOR Emeriti) to complete ethics training every three years. All REALTORS regardless of area of specialty (appraisal, commercial, land, property management, residential, etc.) must satisfy this NAR membership requirement to remain in good standing with our Association.

COMPLIANCE TRACKING: The Albemarle Area Association of REALTORS is tasked with tracking compliance of our primary members and frequently pushes that data to the NRDS/M1 database. To confirm whether your NRDS/M1 record reflects compliance for this cycle, click HERE.

If you are not yet in compliance for Cycle 7, you have several options to complete your Code of Ethics training before December 31, 2024.

  • NAR offers a free, self-paced, online course that fulfills the ethics training requirement. GO HERE to register (be sure to choose the class for Existing Members).
  • Take a class through The CE Shop. Use promo code FAREWELL for 50% off the price of "Ethical Excellence: Raising the Bar," a North Carolina continuing education elective that also fulfills your NAR obligation.
  • You may have already completed a CE class that covers the NAR Code of Ethics during the current cycle (1/1/2022 - 12/31/2024). If you have and your name is on the noncompliant list, you will need to send Coleen a copy of your Certificate of Completion so that we can enter this into your NRDS/M1 record.

FAQs ABOUT THE NAR CODE OF ETHICS TRAINING REQUIREMENT

  • Who must satisfy this requirement? With the exception of REALTOR Emeriti, all REALTORS regardless of area of specialty (appraisal, commercial, land, property management, residential, etc.) must satisfy this NAR requirement.
  • What is the deadline for completion of this requirement? The current cycle (Cycle 7) runs January 1, 2022, through December 31, 2024.
  • What happens if I do not satisfy the requirement? On January 1, 2025, any REALTOR who has not satisfied the requirement will be suspended* from membership for two months or until he/she satisfies the requirement, whichever is sooner. On March 1, 2025, if he/she still is not in compliance, then he/she will be terminated* from membership. *Suspended members do not get member-only discounts or access to services such as the statewide forms and contracts, free and/or discounted CE classes, Forewarn safety app, etc. Terminated members would be required to pay a reinstatement fee.
  • Is this an NC Real Estate Commission requirement? No. This requirement does NOT affect your real estate license. This is an NAR requirement and only affects your REALTOR membership, including MLS rights and privileges.
  • I took NAR's online ethics course. Why is this course not listed on NCREC's website with my other CE credits? You may take NAR's online course to satisfy this membership requirement, but that course does not offer CE credit. Therefore, it will not show up as CE hours on NCREC's website.
  • What courses satisfy the requirement? Each local association determines which courses satisfy the requirement. In addition to the Ethics CE courses offered by AAAR during this 3-year cycle, the following opportunities satisfy the requirement:
  • Obtaining the Commitment to Excellence (C2EX) Endorsement.
  • Grievance and Professional Standards annual training in addition to serving on the 2022, 2023, or 2024 committees.
  • NAR Online Ethics courses are an easy way to satisfy the requirement. And you can choose your area of specialty - residential, commercial, appraisal. While NAR's online courses don't provide CE credit, you can access them online 24/7. Also, if you get interrupted while taking the course, you can save your work and come back to it.
  • NC Realtors Professional Standards courses. If you have completed this course, please send your Certificate of Course completion to Coleen.
  • Other Association-approved CE classes that cover NAR's Code of Ethics. If you feel that you have completed one that fulfills the requirement, please forward the Certificate of Completion to Coleen.
