Envision Utah at the 68th United Nations Civil Society Conference
This month Envision Utah had the opportunity to present at the 68 th United Nations Civil Society Conference.

Utah’s capital city was the first in the nation to host the annual conference outside of the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, reflecting the city’s leadership and demonstrated commitment to sustainability. With over 8,000 people in attendance, we were honored to present on our nationally recognized visioning process during one of the breakout sessions!

Joined by fellow panelists Lowry Snow and Troy Walker, our CEO Robert Grow gave a brief history of Envision Utah, highlighting projects such as Your Utah, Your Future and our Youth Council. Following the presentation attendees had the opportunity to ask the panelists questions, with our COO Ari Bruening acting as the moderator. Delegates in attendance came from across the world and left the workshop with new knowledge and inspiration to apply the Envision Utah process in their own communities.
Envision Utah on Display!

Envision Utah is currently being featured by the Ian L. McHarg Center for Urbanism and Ecology (part of the Pennsylvania State University School of Design) in the Design With Nature Now exhibition! Click here to view the exhibition webpage.

Our portion of the exhibit focuses on the Quality Growth Strategy, a vision that helped Utahns along the Wasatch Front and Back plan for major growth during the late '90s. That vision became the guiding tool for local, government, and private sector planners and resulted in major change for the area, including a 22 percent decrease in average single family home lot size, over 140 miles of added rail, over 40% of new apartment construction occurring with walking distance of a rail station, a significant reduction in water usage, and preservation of developable land.

The McHarg Center is a renowned leader in urban ecological design and has brought together environmental and social scientists with planners, designers, policy-makers, and communities to develop practical, innovative ways of improving the quality of life in the places most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. We're honored to be recognized by such a prestigious organization!

The Design With Nature Now exhibit started earlier this summer and will run until September 15. More info available at https://mcharg.upenn.edu/exhibitions

In the news
Around the nation states are facing a similar dilemma: there aren't enough teachers in our schools. Utah has grappled with a teacher shortage for the last ten years. Envision Utah data emphasizes the role teacher's salaries play in the shortage, as local and national school districts take part in salary wars.

The Point of the Mountain is Utah's fastest growing region, defined by its potential and increasing economic vibrancy. Envision Utah conducted a public visioning process eliciting 4,2000 comments, resulting in a publicly supported vision for the Point of the Mountain area.

President and COO Ari Bruening describes the shift in homes being built in Utah as our population booms and density development becomes a greater consideration. Size, budget, and land availability are all contributing to our shifting market and industry trends.
