Pastor’s Corner
Greetings all,

‘Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence?’
(Psalm 139:7)

Summer is a wonderful time of year. We travel to forests, lakes, family reunions, weddings, throughout the country and the world. We take pictures, make movies and memories. The warmth of the sun beckons us to come outside and enjoy the Creation.

One of the favorite activities at the lake is fishing. People on small boats, big boats, standing on the pier or on the shore seek “the big one.” People will wait for hours to catch that one fish which will be the subject of the story that will be told for years. Would you believe the fish swimming in the lake is similar to us living in God?

‘In him we live and move and have our being’ (Acts 17:28) We are in relation to God, and with God, every moment of our lives. We sleep, wake, move, breathe and do everything in God. We are like the fish in the water. God is our water and we live within God. God is all around us. We cannot live without God. God is not far away having started the world and then stepping away to watch what happens. God surrounds us.

The Psalmist says that wherever we go we cannot find a place where God is not already there. No lake deep enough, remote enough, no forest dense enough is free of God’s presence. No matter where we go this summer, we will never be outside of God’s love and care.

If you catch “the big one” or a few small ones or maybe don’t catch any fish, bask in the knowledge that you live in the presence of the Living God.

Enjoy the rest of the summer.

Ice Cream Social Supper Thank You!
Thank you to everyone that helped to make the Ice Cream Social Supper a success: the organizers, poster distributors, lawn sign advertisers, food preparers, grillers, food servers, carry-out workers, kitchen/clean-up workers, pie bakers, ice cream scoopers, pie cutters, table decorators, cashiers, and Fellowship Hall and carry-out set-up/take-down helpers (if we’ve missed anyone, we apologize). Also a thank you to anyone who made monetary contributions.

We want to especially thank everyone that attended the Ice Cream Social Supper despite the hot and humid weather conditions, and to those that took carry-outs home. It was great to see the Fellowship Hall filled with church members and guests enjoying themselves, and to see the carry-out workers busy as well. At this time, we do not have a total of money raised, but will have an amount for September’s Eagle!

On behalf of the Ebenezer Women’s Guild, again, thank you everyone for your support!

Sunday School Corner ...
Throughout the Bible, God provides for his servants whom He called to do His work. Noah had everything he needed to build the ark, Moses was able to lead thousands of people for 40 years without running out of necessities and the disciples had more than enough fish to feed 5000 people.

“Yeah, so what?”, you say. If you would be willing to volunteer to teach Sunday School in the fall, God will provide what you need to do that as well. We will be needing 2, maybe 3, teachers beginning in September and you can choose what age level you would like to work with. There is prepared curriculum, as well as many additional resources, so you can work with a lesson plan that you are comfortable with.

Psalm 20:4 says “May God give you the desires of your heart and make all your plans succeed.” And Luke 10:2 says, “The harvest is plenty, but workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest.”

That is what I am doing: I’m asking for workers for God’s harvest. Don’t feel as though you don’t know enough about the Bible to teach. I’ve learned so much more through my years of teaching than I ever did as a student. I will also always remember what I was told many, many years ago: “The kids won’t remember what you teach, but they will remember their teacher.” Please consider stepping forward and being part of this important children’s ministry.

Notes from the Music Corner ...
Thank you to everyone that submitted their favorite hymns to be used for the July pre-service Sing-Alongs. This is a perfect opportunity for the congregation to make their wishes known for hymns they like, and it was great to have a wide variety of suggestions.

The 15th Annual Voices of Peace Gospel Music Fest will be held in Hilbert on Friday, August 16 and Saturday, August 17. Brochures listing the various groups that will perform can be found on the table in the Narthex. One of the singers, Larry Delawder , and his family will participate in our worship service on August 18. In addition to singing, Larry plays the harmonica and the drums. He has traveled with various gospel groups and comes from Branson, MO. It is always invigorating to have a variety of music, so do not miss it!

Ebenezer Brass handbell choir will begin their season with rehearsal on Wednesday, September 4. NEW, as well as returning, ringers are encouraged to attend. You need not have prior musical knowledge. It is a wonderful opportunity to contribute and enjoy the camaraderie of the group. Call director Jill Sippel at 920-418-1534 with any questions.
Karen Cmejla and Claudia Brown recently returned from an invigorating time at the National Handbell Convention in St. Louis, MO, and have a great deal of ideas and enthusiasm to share!
Interested in Ebenezer Brass?!
Ebenezer Brass is in search of more ringers! The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings beginning September 4 - May from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., and they perform at least 2x/month (once at EUCC and once at St. John). They also do a Christmas Concert and Fellowship in December. It is NOT necessary that you know how to read music! More ringers for Ebenezer Brass will allow the choir to rotate ringers for performances, and enable them to perform at other venues. If you're interested in learning more or joining, please contact Don Waldvogel (920-853-3494) or Jill Sippel or ( 920-418-1534)!
