29TH EURASHE ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON FUTURE EDUCATION TOOK PLACE IN BUDAPEST
16-17 May, 2019 29th EURASHE’s Annual Conference 'Future Students. Future Universities. Future Jobs. Professional Higher Education in the changing world' took place in Budapest gathering together around 150 higher education experts and students from 32 countries to discuss the future of higher education in Europe.

Participants had the chance to listen to inspiring speeches and interactive sessions and to take part in the European Universities Initiative networking, where they explored new opportunities and looked for suitable project's partners following a clear invitation for Universities of Applied Sciences and other PHE institutions to submit pilot projects to reflect a diversity of excellence dimensions within European Higher Education.

Within the framework of the Conference, leaders of institutions also gathered for the 5th UAS Leadership Forum to discuss the future vision and the changing role of Higher Education.

We thank all the participants who took part in  EURASHE29  and enriched the  higher education community with their ideas and best practices and we can’t wait to see you again next year at   #EURASHE30  in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT AND VICE-PRESIDENT OF EURASHE
EURASHE President Stéphane Lauwick and Vice-President Prof. Ulf-Daniel Ehlers were re-elected as President and Vice-President for the next 2 years mandate at EURASHE Board during the General Assembly meeting which took place on the 15th of May, 2019 in Budapest.

During the General Assembly, members also adopted a new strategy framework built upon the vision of EURASHE striving to support the development and transformation of European society through professional higher education. In this sense, EURASHE reviewed mission is to strengthen the impact of innovative, high quality professional higher education and related user-oriented research in Europe, by representing PHE institutions and facilitating their multi-stakeholder cooperation and dialogue.

EURASHE AFTERNOON DEBATE AT THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT: HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS ARE THE AGENTS OF CHANGE AND OPPORTUNITIES 
April, 2019 Brussels – Higher education institutions face a wide range of challenges and opportunities, most significant associated with shifting perspectives of knowledge itself and the changing role and responsibility of the universities in the society. At the same time a series of worrying phenomena like anti-refugees movements, increasing power of far-right parties, widely spread fake news remind the importance of education in preparing citizens of the future. On the 29th of April EURASHE gathered together higher education community at the Afternoon Debate “Higher Education in Europe: Play to Win” to discuss these emerging issues and search for the possible answers of what should be a future role of higher education in Europe.

Upcoming activities and opportunities
EURASHE WORKSHOP & SUMMER COCKTAIL IN BRUSSELS IN JUNE
13 June, 2019 EURASHE invites to Summer Cocktail 2019 and Workshop 'Professional Higher Education institutions and businesses: stronger interaction for greater impact in Europe' which will take place at Erasmushogeschool Brussels,  Rue des Six Jetons 70, 1000 Brussels.

The workshop will focus on how to optimise the interaction between PHEIs and businesses (industry and SMEs), in terms of research and innovation activities and learning provisions, including work-based learning and up-skilling, in a way that both parties are mutually reinforced and better prepared to take full advantage of the existing and forthcoming EU funding opportunities, such as the European Structural and Investment Funds and Horizon Europe. The event will be followed by Summer Networking reception.

  • 12 September 2019 - EURASHE Quality Assurance Community of Practice in the Netherlands on quality culture and the role of leadership;
  • 20 September 2019 - Peer learning activity on short-cycle higher education in Portugal, which will allow exchange of views and experience on role, mission, concept, recognition and quality assurance of this specific HE qualification;
  • 7 October 2019 - EURASHE Research Community of Practice in Tallinn, Estonia on the role of UAS in smart specialisation and engament with the world of work.

2 NEW MEMBERS JOIN EURASHE
This month EURASHE welcomes two new member organisations University for Digital Technologies in Medicine and Dentistry (DTMD) from Luxembourg and University Politehnica of Bucharest from Romania.

The DTMD University is an international network of university institutes, academic teaching practices, professors and medical specialists renowned throughout Europe as well as international professional associations.
The University Politehnica of Bucharest is the oldest and most prestigious engineering school in Romania, with a tradition of 200 years made possible by the efforts of some of the greatest Romanian professors, its specificity relies in creating knowledge through research and technological innovation, as well as through its implementation by means of education and professional training at a European level.
 
Currently, EURASHE has 63 members which represent 65 countries and more than 650 higher education institutions around the world.

UALL WORK AND LEARNING NETWORK ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2019 IN LONDON
Our member Universities Association for Lifelong Learning (UALL) organises its Annual Conference named ‘Learning for, at and through work: capturing workplace learning for transformative Higher Education’ will take place 28 June, 2019 in London and will focus on the ways to structure and apply flexibility to empower all work-based learning stakeholders to share implicit and explicit responsibility for new learning that maintains work-life balance and well-being.

EUROPEAN COMMISSION HAS LAUNCHED THE CALLS FOR MISSION BOARDS
The European Commission has launched  the calls for applications for the following Mission Boards:
- adaptation to climate change;
- cancer;
- healthy oceans, seas, costal and inland waters;
- climate-neutral and smart cities; and 
- soil health and food.

Missions in Horizon Europe will be high-ambition, high-profile initiatives with the aim to deliver a transformative impact for society, the economy, and/or environment, in relation to the challenges faced by European citizens. They will require identifying a well-defined end-point, fixed in time against which to measure success and the development of a systemic approach to meeting a challenge, combining new knowledge and technology with business model, finance, regulatory, governance, skills and social innovation.

ECTS CONFERENCE PRAGUE  IN JUNE
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic invites you to attend the ECTS Conference Prague which is going to take place on 4 June 2019 in Grandium Prague, Politických vězňů 913/12, 110 00 Nové Město, Czech Republic.

The conference is organized within the framework of the Thematic Peer Group A on Qualification Frameworks which was established by the BFUG to promote the implementation of the Key Commitment 1: a three-cycle system compatible with the overarching frameworks of the EHEA and first and second cycle degrees scaled by ECTS. One of the subthemes of the Peer Group is the complete implementation of the ECTS User’s Guide.The conference will focus on what national governments should do to implement a credit system for higher education in line with EHEA commitments and is open to representatives of EHEA governments, representatives of national agencies responsible for ECTS and/or EHEA issues and QA agencies representatives and of course to ENIC-NARICs representatives. INTERNATIONAL TRAINING ON DESIGN THINKING IN BOLOGNA
Mobiliteach is a Summer School addressing trainers, teachers, headmasters and secondary school staff from all over the world.

The 2019 edition will allow participants to discover how to use Design Thinking
to face educational challenges, to reinforce the capacity to innovate daily practices
and to open schools to european opportunities.
The training course will be in English and will take place on 25-28 June 2019 in Bologna - Italy.
