SUMMARISING RESULTS OF THE PROJECT ON APPRENTICESHIPS
29-30 of January the last SAPS ( Supporting Apprenticeships between Professional Higher Education & Small and Medium Enterprise) project meeting took place in Brussels. Besides a lot of project meetings around Europe, focus groups and long hours of discussions on how to make apprenticeships systems work for all, the project delivered some concrete results, such as: project website in 8 languages, Apprenticeships Quality Toolkit, 4 guides on how to boost your Business with Apprenticeships, one-stop shop system helping to find a suitable apprentice, numerous informational local events around Europe and more.

WORKSHOP ON INTERNSHIPS' STANDARTISATION TOOK PLACE IN PARIS
Last month AFNOR hosted the first CEN Workshop of SPRINT project. Participants, among which EURASHE, discussed the first draft of the CEN Workshop Agreement towards the standardisation of quality internships throughout Europe.

EURASHE PRESIDENT STÉPHANE LAUWICK: UAS SHOULD STRONGLY PROMOTE THEIR OWN WAY OF SERVING COMMUNITIES
On 29 January, the University of Bragança in Portugal with the support of EURASHE member Portuguese Polytechnics Coordinating Council held a Symposium on "Internationalisation and Competitiveness of the Polytechnic Higher Education System”.
EURASHE President, Stéphane Lauwick took part in the roundtable debate and addressed the challenges and opportunities that Universities of applied sciences (UAS) face in their role in the regions.

EURASHE29: CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS EXTENDED
The Call for contributions for the upcoming 29th EURASHE Annual Conference  ‘Future Students. Future Universities. Future Jobs.  Professional Higher Education in the changing world . ’ has been extended until the 22nd of February 2019, 12.00 pm (noon) CET Brussels-time. We invite you to attend the event and share their experience on the key topics of the Conference:

  • Future Students
  • Future Universities
  • Future World of Work

Education plays a key role in addressing global challenges and responding to sustainable development goals. Generation X, Y, Z, millennials as well as older generations: what learning experience do they expect from Higher Education Institutions? What kind of skills will they need to lead successful lives and professional careers? How will Professional Higher Education help provide those skills? Are we definitely moving away from knowledge-oriented curricula and coherent qualifications into an age of transferable skills? How do we re-invent learning and teaching to remain relevant in a world of uncertainty?

SAVE THE DATE: THE POLISH PEER LEARNING ACTIVITY ON TEACHING AND LEARNING IN PHE
The reversed peer learning activity on Learning and Teaching in Professional Higher Education will reflect on the experience and developments within Polish higher vocational education. It will, however, allow a more general exchanges on the role and objectives of professionally oriented higher education, the balance of academic and practical elements and relevant learning methods, challenges of digitalisation.

The event will take place on the  8 March, 2019  in  Warsaw, Poland and will be free of charge.

HOW TO CREATE A LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP?
To answer this question, WEXHE project invites academic staff from different backgrounds to join a four-day workshop where they will be introduced to different strategies and techniques that will help them to set-up their teaching activities in an entrepreneurial way.

The workshop will take place from the 13-16 May 2019 in Münster , Germany. Participants shall include academic staff from different EU countries and from different disciplinary backgrounds. Travel and accommodation costs will be paid by the WEXHE Project. The workshop is free of charge. Participation in all four days is mandatory.

SAVE THE DATE: UAS4EUROPE CONFERENCE 2019
‘BEYOND HORIZONS: THE FUTURE OF APPLIED RESEARCH IN EUROPE’
T he conference will address the challenges that universities of applied sciences (UAS) are facing when engaging in R&D activities at the European level. It will provide practical tips on how to successfully apply for EU-funding for research done by the UAS, the opportunity to network and to find partners for your EU-innovation project proposals and an insight in the research policy of the EU. Moreover, the conference will give the opportunity to interact with members of the European Commission and Parliament.

The conference is organised by UAS4EUROPE. UAS4EUROPE is founded by EURASHE, UASnet, swissuniversities, Hochschule Bayern e.V. and the Austrian Fachhochschul-Konferenz (FHK) and aims to strengthen the role of UAS at the European level.

VLHORA APPOINTS A NEW PRESIDENT
EURASHE member The Flemish Council of Universities of Applied Sciences and Arts appointed a new President Mr.Joris Hindryckx who is currently a Director General of VIVES University of Applied Sciences based in Belgium.

New President's goal is to strengthen social legitimacy of the colleges of higher education in their role of forming talents for tomorrow.

PROJECT AND SURVEY ON EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION. DEADLINE: 15 FEBRUARY
EURASHE partners the European University Association ( EUA ) and the European Universities’ Continuing Education Network ( EUCEN ), supported by the European Students’ Union ( ESU ), are launching a new project on “Strategies towards Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at Universities” ( INVITED ).
The first milestone is an online survey to higher education institutions open until 15 February 2019.

We invite our members who are concerned about the issues of diversity, equity and inclusion of various groups to contribute to the survey which may lead to the better integration of the PHE sector experience in the next stages.

JOIN UAS BURGENLAND AT THEIR FIRST STAFF WEEK
Focus:  ”Dig in! Digitalisation and Internationalisation: Challenges and Opportunities for Universities”

Host:  University of Applied Sciences Burgenland in partnership with PH Burgenland

Participation:  capacity: 40 places. Registration opens February 6 and closes April 6. Participation is free of charge!

Calls:  For some parts of the programme, participants are invited to prepare inputs/presentations.

Deadlines: Expression of interest 15 March, inputs/presentations 21 April . A separate detailed call will follow in February.

The conference is being organised in the framework of  iStart  - a European Commission Erasmus+ funded project that aims to develop a curriculum for universities and other academic institutions to teach Digital Entrepreneurship Practice in a more market/startup oriented way.
