PHE INSTITUTIONS SEEK FOR STRONGER INTERACTION WITH BUSINESSES IN EUROPE
13 June, 2019 EURASHE Summer cocktail and workshop "Professional Higher Educations: stronger interaction for greater impact in Europe" took place at the Erasmushogeschool in Brussels.

The workshop gathered together higher education and businesses communities to discuss how to optimise the interaction between PHEIs and businesses (industry and SMEs), in terms of research and innovation activities and learning provisions, including work-based learning and up-skilling, in a way that both parties are mutually taking full advantage of the existing and forthcoming EU funding opportunities.

EURASHE CELEBRATES THE 20 TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BOLOGNA DECLARATION
19 June 2019 marked the 20 th anniversary from the signing of the Bologna Declaration and the start of the Bologna process.

To celebrate the occasion, EURASHE took part in two events commemorating this important milestone for our Higher Education community:

  • Bologna – 20 years on” at the Universidade de Aveiro in Porto, Portugal, where our President Stéphane Lauwick gave his contribution during the panel “Perspective for Higher Education institutions”, addressing the important role that Universities of Applied Science have in the Bologna process.

  • “Bologna Process beyond 2020: fundamental values of the EHEA” in Bologna, Italy, where Prof. Ulf-Daniel Ehlers, Vice-President of EURASHE, took part in the panel “Careers and Skills for the Labour Market of the Future”.

EUROPEAN COMMISSION ANNOUNCES FIRST 17 EUROPEAN UNIVERSITIES ALLIANCES
On Wednesday 26 June, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Tibor Navracsic, announced the 114 higher education institutions that will be part of the first 17 “European Universities” alliances.

The European Universities Initiative is designed to significantly strengthen the mobility of students and staff, and foster the quality, inclusiveness and competitiveness of European Higher Education.

Unfortunately, any Universities of Applied Sciences or Professional Higher Education institutions were among the selected universities. We therefore highly encourage all our community member to apply for the next call of the project, which will be opened in the autumn of 2019 .

EURASHE is always ready to support the creation and development of strategic partnerships. During the 'European Universities Initiative networking session', organized in the framework of our 29 th Annual Conference in Budapest, Mrs Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, Head of the Higher Education Unit of the European Commission, emphasized the enormous potential of this project and highly encouraged EURASHE members to apply to the forthcoming calls.

Upcoming activities and opportunities
PEER LEARNING ACTIVITY ON SHORT-CYCLE HE THIS SEPTEMBER IN PORTO
19-20 September 2019 - EURASHE together with the Council of Portuguese Polytechnics and the Portugal Ministry of Higher Education and Science is organising a Peer learning activity on short-cycle higher education (SCHE) in Porto Portugal, which will give an opportunity for 80 local and international participants from institutions, governments, quality assurance agencies to exchange views and experience on the following topics:

- Mission, role and objectives of SCHE, reflecting world of work and specific learners' groups needs;
- Pedagogy with emphasis on practical aspects, work-based learning and cooperation with world of work;
- Q uality assurance in SCHE, approach, tools and impact on recognition within higher education.

Confirmed speakers are international experts:

  • Mr. Jean-Philippe Restoueix, Administrator, Council of Europe
  • Mrs. Alicia-Leonor Sauli-Miklavčič, Board member of EURASHE (tbc)

OPEN POSITIONS AT EURASHE BOARD AND COMMITTEE FOR STRATEGIC ADVICE

EURASHE announces a call to complete the rest of the mandate of resigned Board member Alan Sherry and seeks nominations of experts for its Committee for Strategic Advice (CSA).




  • Board member

EURASHE full members are invited to nominate candidate for the vacant Board member position. The Board member is expected to act as described within EURASHE Statutes, represent EURASHE and actively contribute to the policy agenda as well within the Working groups. Therefore, follow one or more topics within the EURASHE strategy (Mission and Role of PHE; Relevant & Flexible Teaching & Learning; Strengthening Regional Engagement; Engagement in Applied Research & Innovation; Promoting PHE Quality).

  • Committee for Strategic Advice experts and representatives

The CSA is composed of representatives of the world of work, students, regional network and institutions, and policy experts. Its role is to enhance and deepen EURASHE’s interaction and communication with stakeholders, map and understand external challenges and opportunities and build a more solid basis for EURASHE long-term strategies and priorities, as well as to contribute to relevant European policies. EURASHE invites its members, as well as other stakeholders to nominate candidates. The current CSA members are invited to consider their further engagement, as well.

The deadline to send applications for positions opened in both of the EURASHE structures: 30 September 2019.

HAVE YOUR SAY ABOUT APPRENTICESHIPS IN EUROPE
EURASHE invites to take part in two surveys of the following projects about apprenticeships and contribute to the high-quality apprenticeships creation in Europe:


Researchers of ApprenticeshipQ project have been surveying the European PHE/HVET market to characterize the diversity and commonalities of apprenticeship schemes, identify good practices and extract success factors, which fed the development of a set of quality requirements for Apprenticeships. Today the project is asking stakeholders to validate the first draft of this set of requirements, which will later be transformed into a requirements standard to manage the quality of apprenticeships. EURASHE is involved in ApprenticeTrack project which is developing a digital management tool supporting Professional Higher Education and employers to offer and lead high-quality apprenticeships.The project is now seeking input to its 10-question survey to improve its apprenticeship management tool and best fit the future users expectations (PHE institutions, employers and students). 2019 EUROPEAN QUALITY ASSURANCE FORUM IN BERLIN
EURASHE, together with the European University Association (EUA), the European Students' Union (ESU) and the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), is organising the 2019 European Quality Assurance Forum (EQAF) "Supporting societal engagement of higher education" , which will take place at the Technische Universität Berlin in Berlin, Germany, on 21-23 November 2019 .

The EQAF provides a platform for discussion, professional development and exchange of experiences among the main stakeholders in Quality Assurance (QA). This year's forum will explore how external and internal QA processes can support engaged higher education institutions in developing activities that meet the expectations and needs of all stakeholders and demonstrate their value to society.

The EQAF Programme Committee is inviting QA practitioners in HE institutions and QA agencies, students, and researchers to submit their proposals for paper presentations, workshops or discussion starters.

The deadline to submit contributions is 22 July 2019.

DEQAR FINAL CONFERENCE IN MADRID
The European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) invites you to take part in the DEQAR Final Conference "Database of External Quality Assurance Results", which will take place on 7-8 October in Madrid, Spain .

The conference will feature the key results of the DEQAR pilot studies and further enable and support peer learning and exchange of experience among policy makers, stakeholders and researchers.

Scholars, practitioners, and students in the QA fields are invited to submit their research proposals, drawing on the DEQAR data, by 30 June 2019 .

EURASHE MEMBER HOTELSHOOL THE HAGUE AMONG THE BEST HOSPITALITY UNIVERSITIES IN EUROPE
Based on a study done by the CEOWORLD magazine for 2019, EURASHE member Hotelschool The Hague was ranked as the 4th best hospitality and hotel management school in Europe.

Established in the year 1929, the UAS provides master’s as well as a bachelor’s program in hospitality management. The institute houses a consultancy and training division and is renowned as a leading research center. It offers summer courses in hospitality management and offers international fast track programs.

Hotelschool The Hague joined EURASHE as a full member in 2017.

EUROPEAN RESEARCH AND INNOVATION DAYS IN SEPTEMBER: REGISTRATION IS OPEN
On 24, 25 and 26 September, the European Commission organises the "European Research and Innovation Days" at the Kanal-Centre Pompidou in Brussels.

The Days aims to gather Europe's best and brightest researchers, scientists, innovators and policy makers. The event will feature three main elements: a high-level Policy Conference, the Innovative Europe Hub and the "Science is Wonderful" exhibition of EU-funded projects. It will be a unique platform to meet, debate and co-create the strategic priorities for EU investment in research and innovation.

EUROPEAN COMMISSION LAUNCHES BLUEPRINT FOR SECTORAL COOPERATION ON SKILLS
The European Commission has launched a new Blueprint for Sectoral Cooperation on Skills as part of the New Skills Agenda.

The Blueprint is a new framework for strategic cooperation in a given economic sector between key stakeholders such as business, research, education and training institutions, and public authorities. Stimulating investment and encouraging a more strategic use of EU and national funding opportunities, its aim is to support an overall sectoral strategy and to develop concrete actions to address short and medium-term skills needs .
