May 2018

Dear Community Member,

Every May, the Administration on Aging leads our nation's observance of Older Americans Month. The 2018 theme, Engage at Every Age, emphasizes that you are never too old (or young) to take part in activities that can enrich your physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Join us Tuesday, May 1st from 10:00-10:30am (right before Vital Fitness) at East Side's Community Room for a celebration of the many ages of East Side's program participants. Participants from Project EVA, Adult Day at Friendship Center, and North East Childhood Development Center will all gather to Engage at Every Age! Refreshments will be available.

A big thank you to nonprofit ArtStart for funding a second Connecting with Movement and Music  six-week series.  The  class started April 25 and continues through May 30 with dance instructor Christopher Yaeger continuing to share his talents -- please see details below under Weekdays with EVA!

Adult Day at Friendship Center  addresses social isolation. If you know an older adult who is feeling lonely, isolated, or who appears to be depressed, Adult Day at Friendship Center (AD@FC)
may be the answer to move them toward better health. Older Adults' health can improve by simply engaging in conversation with others and/or through activities and exercise. AD@FC participants share stories about their pasts, they learn about each person's unique backgrounds and share their past travel adventures. Participants' lives are enhanced through engagement with new people and finding enjoyment in music, art, games, and laughter.
