JULY 2011

4th of July Holiday Edition Newletter

Dear Friends,

Well look where we are...July 1st!  I can hardly believe it myself, I am sure some of you are in the same boat, especially those of you who have been spending quite a bit of time here or live here year round and still have snow melting at your properties.  It was a long winter leaving about 2 weeks of spring (June 7-21) but now that summer is here Truckee and Tahoe has not skipped a beat.  The cars are streaming in, summer sales are in effect and the social calendar for this area is unlimited.  I have designated this newsletter as a guide for Truckee/Tahoe Happenings to help guide you through this busy holiday weekend.  I have had many inquires regarding the fireworks and I have to be honest that I haven't been to the fireworks since before my son Colby (4 1/2) was born.  I think our family may attempt it this year, but not on the 4th.  We will try for the Kings Beach fireworks on Sunday the 3rd, as they seems to be less chaotic and more spread out.  Plus starting with the Truckee Fire Department pancake breakfast and parade the morning of the 4th, the kids are often burned out by lunch!

I hope to see some of you this upcoming week and if you are up, feel free to stop in or shoot us an email letting us know you are here so we can coordinate a "hello".   Also, let us know what you decide to do on the 4th or fun family traditions or locations you like to spend the holiday.  We are ALWAYS up for new ideas and suggestions!

Dinny, Ernette, Kris and I wish you a happy and safe holiday and hope it is filled with laughter, sun, happiness and many new memories!

Summer Ski

If Mother Natures feels it's necessary to still have snow in July then why not make the most of it and go skiing?!  This weekend, July 2-4 you can hit the slopes at Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Sugar Bowl.  With music, good weather and snow, this may not be a bad option, especially since the Truckee River is closed for river rafting from the popular Tahoe City to River Ranch route.

Truckee Fire

Come join the Jitloff family (and most of Truckee!) at the annual 4th of July pancake breakfast.  $3 kids and $6 adults from 7-10AM at Station 92 (11473 Donner Pass Road) at the fire station next to Wild Cherries.  This is a fun event, especially for kids, with all the fire engines out and a bounce slide on the back.  Enjoy early pancakes and head to downtown Truckee for the parade or just bring a chair and enjoy the start of the parade with a full belly right there!
