World Learning: U.S. Youth Ambassadors Program
Program Dates: Summer 2019
Application Deadline: Nov 27, 2018
T he U.S. Youth Ambassadors Program is a 3-week leadership exchange abroad for US teens ages 15-17 and adult mentors. The program, sponsored by the US State Department, provides full scholarships for 120   students   and   adult mentors   to take part in one of five (5) exchange programs to countries in South America and the Caribbean. The program aims to develop a cadre of young adults who have a strong sense of civic responsibility, a commitment to their communities, an awareness of current and global issues, and strong interpersonal leadership skills. Participants will focus on program themes of civic education, leadership, and community service through site meetings, experiential learning activities, leadership trainings, civic participation at the community level, mentoring by community, business, and NGO leaders, and volunteering. The single and multi-country exchanges available for 2019 are Argentina & Chile; Brazil; Dominican Republic; Ecuador; and Paraguay.
 
NOTE TO TEACHERS: The U.S. Youth Ambassadors Program is also seeking adult mentors for these 3-week summer exchanges. Teachers and adults experienced in youth service, especially with Spanish language proficiency, are encouraged to apply.

Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program (IYLEP)
Program Dates: July-Aug 2019
Application Deadline: Jan 15, 2019
Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program (IYLEP) is a four-week, fully funded cultural exchange program that takes place in the USA. It is for both Iraqi and US high school students who demonstrate leadership and civic engagement in their communities, and is designed to develop leadership and peacebuilding skills, foster relationships between youth from different backgrounds, promote US-Iraq mutual understanding, and develop community action projects. During the program, the 12 US and 27 Iraqi students will engage in experiential learning activities and workshops in three program sites - in Vermont, a host city in the US, and Washington, DC. IYLEP is funded by the US State Department and administered by World Learning. Applicants must be US citizens, 15-17 years old on July 1, 2019, have completed at least one year of high school, with a graduation year of 2020 or later.

Youth For Understanding (YFU USA) Scholarships to Study Abroad
Program Dates: Summer 2019 and SY2019-20
App Deadline: Jan 7, 2019 (for most scholarships)
Youth For Understanding-USA offers a huge menu of great summer and school year exchange programs with countries all over the world. While these are fee-based programs, YFU-USA awards more than 200 full and partial scholarships. To be considered for scholarship awards, students must meet the eligibility requirements listed on the YFU website and demonstrate characteristics like flexibility, tolerance, and open-mindedness.

Teachers of Critical Languages Program

The Teachers of Critical Languages Program (TCLP), funded by the US State Department, places fully funded EFL teachers from China, Taiwan, Egypt, and Morocco in US K-12 host schools for an academic year.

Global Classrooms DC
Program Dates: SY2018-19
Global Classrooms DC (GCDC) is the United Nations Association of the National Capital Area (UNA-NCA) Model UN and global education program serving students in grades 5-12 in area public, public charter, and private schools.

JET Ambassadors Program (Classroom visits)
The JET Ambassadors Program arranges for local JET alumni (young Americans who have taught English in Japanese schools) to visit interested high school classrooms and share their personal experiences from Japan.

Japan-in-a-Suitcase (Classroom visits)
The Japan America Society of Washington DC's Japan-in-a-Suitcase program offers presentations on Japan for elementary and middle school classrooms, libraries and festivals.

QFI & GEEO Qatar and Oman Educator Tour

Qatar Foundation International (QFI), in partnership with the University of Texas at Austin and Global Exploration for Educators Organization (GEEO), is offering a fully-funded cultural immersion trip to Qatar and Oman for up to sixteen (16) K-12 educators in spring 2019.

Fulbright Leaders for Global Schools Program
Program Dates: Departure Mar 6, 2019 (approx two weeks travel)

The Fulbright Leaders for Global Schools Program, sponsored by the US Department of State, will send one cohort of ten (10) K-12 school administrators to Finland for an intensive 10-day global education program. Eligible applicants must be school or district-level administrators.

KKC Teacher Fellowship to Japan 2019
Travel Dates: June 24 - July 1, 2019
Application Deadline: Feb 1, 2019
The Keizai Koho Center (KKC) invites applications from US and Canadian secondary social studies teachers for this fully funded, summer study program in Japan. Only applicants who have never lived in Japan or participated in a similar study tour will be considered.

NEA Foundation Global Learning Fellowship
Program Dates: SY2019-20; travel in summer 2020

This fully funded 12-month global education professional development program includes a two-day professional development workshop in DC (fall 2019), an online global education course, webinars on global issues, peer learning, and an international field experience in Peru in summer 2020. Applicants must be active NEA members who are current K-12 classroom teachers.

Operation Understanding DC (OUDC)
Program Dates: Jan-Dec 2019
Application Deadline: Nov 19, 2018 
Each fall OUDC selects African American and Jewish juniors from DC area schools to take part in this free one-year leadership program, which includes study of each others' histories and cultures, a 3-week summer travel program to sites of historic interest to African Americans and Jews, and leadership training and student-led workshops in the fall.

The Bronfman Fellowship to Israel
Summer Program Dates: July 1-Aug 7, 2019 plus follow-up in SY2019-20
Application Deadline: Nov 30, 2018
The highlight of the Bronfman Fellowship is a five week, all-expenses-paid Summer Fellowship in Israel. Students in the 11th grade (juniors), who self-identify as Jewish, and will be 16 years old or older by July 1, 2019 are eligible to apply.

Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad Program
Program Dates: 2019-20 School Year 
Application Deadline: Dec 4, 2018
The Kennedy-Lugar YES Abroad Program, sponsored by the US State Department, offers American high school students and recent graduates full merit-based scholarships to live and study for one academic year in countries with significant Muslim populations. Applicants must be US citizens, 15-18 years of age, and high school students at the time of application.

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program
Program Dates: 2019-20 School Year
Application Deadline: Dec 11, 2018
The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program offers American high school students the opportunity to live and study abroad in Germany for a full academic year through joint sponsorship by the US Congress and the German Bundestag. Eligible students must be US citizens or permanent residents, aged 15-18, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. This is a fully funded program.

High School Diplomats (HSD)
Program Dates: July 24-Aug 4, 2019
Application Deadline: Jan 9, 2019
HSD US is a fully funded 10-day summer cultural exchange program at Princeton University for 40 American and 40 Japanese high school students. Only high school sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply. Those American students who have successfully completed HSD US are eligible to apply for a full scholarship to travel to Japan for a month the following summer.

Congress-Bundestag Vocational Youth Exchange Program
Program Dates: 2019-20 School Year
Application Deadline: Jan 15, 2019
This is a fully funded gap year or 13th year abroad in Germany for graduating US high school students with a vocational or career education background, co-funded by the US Congress and the German Bundestag. Participants will engage in two months of intensive German language training, host family placement, training/school attendance, and an internship with a German company.

Experiment Leadership Institute Full Scholarships

The Experiment in International Living (EIL) offers two fully funded Leadership Institute programs in summer 2019: India and Nepal: Community Development and Public Health and South Africa and Mozambique: Peace, Politics, and Human Rights. These exciting and highly competitive six-week programs are for rising seniors, and include time in DC as well as Brattleboro, Vermont.
