EWDD General Manager Carolyn Hull (pictured second from left) was recently a panelist for a “Women in the Workforce” event at the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. Carolyn encouraged business owners to view EWDD as a resource to connect with qualified employees trained for jobs in the 21st century. 


“I really hope that as we go forward, our department can work with all the employers in the room to help you prepare your staff and your workers for jobs and occupations of the future, to help you solve some of your business problems, whether it be equity, funding. Reach out to us and we can work with you as a partner to diversify our workplace.”

BusinessSource helps restaurant expand 

"MY FISH STOP" LURES MORE CUSTOMERS 

Harris Brown, a Black and Native American disabled veteran, grew up in Louisiana. When he settled in Los Angeles, he opened My Fish Stop, a Gulf-style fish fry soul food restaurant in Sherman Oaks, to bring his family’s food to the region. Harris (pictured standing above) worked closely with VSEDC, operator of the South LA and Watts BusinessSource Centers (BSC) to establish his restaurant. With assistance from BusinessSource Manager Adrian Veliz, Harris expanded his business and opened up a second location in North Hollywood. 


“Adrian was amazing in making sure I had access to the proper resources needed to succeed,” Harris said. “My business wouldn’t have made it through the pandemic without his help."

$6K LOAN HELPS BUSINESS HELP HOMELESS: 

EXPANDING BOUNDARIES BEYOND

As founder and CEO of Boundaries Beyond, Porsche Skinner (pictured above right) has been working with homeless and family mission-focused individuals since 2018. The company offers wrap-around services for homeless individuals and families. Its goal is to expand a culture of recovery and trauma-informed care in the existing homeless services delivery system in Los Angeles and surrounding cities. Utilizing the housing-first model combined with intensive case management, Boundaries Beyond aims to assist homeless individuals who have been placed in permanent housing via substance abuse treatment and provide additional assistance with accessing other supportive services.


In May 2022, Porsche met with Hollywood BusinessSource Center consultant Supranee May seeking guidance to apply for a loan so she could expand her company to hire additional employees. Supranee provided business services and technical assistance, which helped Porsche secure a $6,000 microloan, allowing her to hire one employee
