HELLO EVERYONE

We had a wonderful 2 days with Jenny O'Leary and a very lovely bunch of students and I am looking forward to two courses coming up.

One from ALEX McINTRYE and the other from AMANDA CLAYTON. Amanda will also be offering a lecture on the Thursday evening which is well-worth hearing. Booking can now be made for this talk.

But first here is some of the work from Jenny's course 'Inspired by John Piper' The students experimented with Jenny's contemporary take on Batik to produce some lovely work. If you get the opportunity to do a course with Jenny you will not be disappointed. She teaches up and down the country so do look out for her in your area.

BACK TO AMANDA CLAYTON

As I mentioned earlier Amanda will also be offering a lecture in support of her 3 day workshop. Anyone can attend the talk and I hope to see many of you at Moor Hall Studio for this event.

LECTURE £10 ~ Thursday 24th July 7.30pm

Amanda will be giving a fascinating talk on Thursday 24th July which goes under the same title as 'Fragile Forms'. You do not need to be a student on the course to attend as the lecture is open to everyone. I have heard this talk and as is always the case there will be plenty of Mandy's quality work to show and share. Details below

"Amanda will give a short introduction to her early influences and philosophies. This will be followed by lots of 'real' work to look at as she describes her experiences with numerous health projects. These include a Kings College, London collaboration with Dr Jacqueline Collin and also experiental workshops with a group called ComMa during conferences with 'The International Committee for Sexuality and Cancer. This work is produced responding to a breadth of health issues and was made in very recent years.

'Fragile Forms'

Exploring the qualities of cloth and hand stitch in a neutral palette with particular emphasis on flat to form.

SPACE   TENSION   WEIGHT   MOVEMENT   SUSPENSION   TRANSLUCENCY  FRAGILITY   TOUCH   STRENGTH   STRETCH   

The above are just a few of the elements that we will challenge by being creative with bias, shaping, construction, right side/wrong side. This 3 day course is very much about experimenting and taking risks. You may not go away with resolved pieces but you will have lots of ideas to develop back in your studio.

THE COURSE WILL INVOLVE:

• Responding to primary source.
• Recognising the process of developing concept, imagery and qualities.
• Working with the inherent qualities of cloth.
• Using hand stitch as a functional element.
• Rediscovering techniques in a new context especially three dimension.
• Understanding your own individual visual language.

PAPER MAKING

Wednesday 23rd July

This ancient craft of papermaking will be delivered to you in a manageable way for you to experiment further at home.

Use recycled paper, photocopier making, old envelopes, paper bags etc and drop in some Pot Pourri, snippets of fabric and threads, tissue papers and dyes. Create some glorious papers which can be used later in different projects of your choice.
