Tomorrow is National Tie-Dye Day so Get Your Groove On.

For anyone that remembers the groovy 60's, or has seen pictures from the 60's, will recognize tie-dye shirts as a main fashion statement. It started out as Protest Art and moved into Pop fashion in the 70's. The idea that clothes can be used as a form of protest became popular. Tie-dye fashions have continued throughout the decades although it's not as much of a protest platform as it is a craft style.

Click on the tie-dye image above and the video will share various tie-dye techniques to create some classic tie-dye patterns.

Looking ahead to the industry workers of tomorrow, Lamar High School will be hosting a career fair next month where companies can provide opportunities for students in several ways.

The Hazard Communication Standard (HazCom) violations continue to be major sources of citations for businesses year-after-year. Safety & Health, a division of the National Safety Council, will be hosting a free session on developing a program for your business.

If you have ever seen a peacock, or just a picture of one, you know they are very vibrant, colorful birds that get noticed. We would like to introduce you to another type of peacock that could get you noticed.

And reminders of other upcoming webinars for you and your team.

Groovy.
Lamar High School Job Fair is Looking for Employers.
Summer is approaching so students are looking for opportunities. As an industry looking to connect with the potential future workers, this could be a great opportunity for your business.

Lamar High School will be hosting a face-to-face career fair on May 15th, 2021 from 10am-2pm and needs employers to participate and provide the following opportunities for students:

  • Shadowing and observation
  • Mentorship
  • Networking
  • Internship
  • Field experiences
  • Entry-level positions

Companies can set their experience length of time - a one-day shadowing/observation day, a summer internship, etc.

Looking for future workers in the industry will continue to be a challenge. This is one way to meet and engage potential candidates. Many students at this level are unfamiliar with our industry and don't even have it on their radar. You could change that.

In addition, they are hoping to build connections with businesses and organizations in the community for continued student opportunities in the following years.

If you are interested, or would like more information, contact Kadee Dawn Harper with Lamar High School at (713) 522-5960 or [email protected].
Making Sure Your Hazard Communication Program is OSHA Compliant.
Hazard Communication violations continue to be a major source of violations for printers. And considering each segment of the program that is not fulfilled is a violation, penalties can add up quickly.

Hazard Communication (HazCom for short) is how chemical hazards of the workplace are communicated to the employees. Through a written program, chemical inventory, Safety Data Sheets (formerly Material Safety Data Sheets), Global Harmonization System compliance for labeling and employee training, a company will satisfy the requirements for HazCom.

Safety & Health Magazine, a publication of the National Safety Council, is offering a free webinar to address the written program. While the presentation does not specifically address the graphic communications industry, we fall under general industry rules, so the information will be applicable.

Project Peacock Kicks Off Tonight.
Yes; we know the NFL draft is tonight, but let's face it, unless there is a season-altering trade that takes place, the Houston Texans are not on the clock until tomorrow.

Might we suggest checking out the launch of Project Peacock, a platform of not only industry and technology updates, but a way for vendors and potential customers to connect.

Longtime print advocate Deborah Corn, has spear-headed this project. She sees it as a way to have conversations and connections in a meaningful way.

So many potential customers, especially the younger age set, are Googling to find print providers or other service providers.

There is educational content and events (tonight 's session is focused on direct mail) for anyone to use.

There is also an opportunity for providers to be a partner and have a "booth" where customers can visit.

Tonight's event start at 5PM.
