Candidate Spotlight ...

As we head into the midterm elections, we will be highlighting some of JAC’s key races. The outcome of these races will determine if we can keep our majority in the House. We also need to re-elect our Senate friends and other Democratic Senate candidates so we can break the filibuster and at last get meaningful legislation passed on gun safety, voter rights, and women’s health care. We hope you will get involved with JAC as we try and help these candidates win their elections. Your financial support (click here to donate) is needed as well as your help to get out the vote. Georgia will once again take center stage in our nation’s politics. President Joe Biden’s narrow win there in 2020 helped to make him president. That state hadn’t backed a Democrat for president in nearly 30 years. Now, the state’s first Black Senator, Raphael Warnock, is running for re-election for a full 6-year term.

This race will likely be one of the most expensive and competitive races in the nation. The state’s history of voter suppression, combined with new voting laws, will make the race even more challenging. Support from JAC members will be critical to this race. DONATE HERE.

Warnock is facing Hershel Walker, a former football player and Heisman Trophy winner. As a result, Walker has high name recognition throughout the state. Walker has faced scrutiny over past accusations from an ex-wife and an ex-girlfriend that he threatened violence against them.

Walker's response to the Uvalde school shooting and the need for action was essentially incoherent. He said, “What I like to do is see it and everything and stuff.” He gave no further comment. He later added his solution would be “getting a department that’s looking at young men, that’s looking at young women.”

In his short time in the Senate, Warnock has proven to be a champion for gun safety, supporting legislation that would close loopholes in our gun laws.

Warnock is proud to say that he is a pro-choice pastor. “I’ve always believed that a patient's room is way too small for a woman, her doctor, and the United States government,” he said. He has cosponsored the Women’s Health Protection Act to make the right to an abortion a federal law throughout the country.

For over 15 years, Warnock served as Senior Pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, the former pulpit of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He is the youngest pastor selected to serve in that leadership role at the church. This fall he will release a children’s picture book based on being one of 12 siblings.

Elections have consequences. We need Raphael Warnock in the Senate. DONATE HERE.

The Last Word

January 6th and the lies that led to insurrection have put two and a half centuries of constitutional democracy at risk. The world is watching what we do here."
