WEEK IN REVIEW
Thanksgiving is a time to spend with family and friends and an opportunity to reflect. This year has been an incredibly tumultuous time in our country and Congress. Nevertheless, JACPAC candidates are working in Congress to help pass meaningful legislation to improve the lives of everyone in this country. This week we want to highlight some of our candidates and their achievements. Throughout the year we will continue to keep you updated on their work and the work of our other candidates.

We are thankful for their handiwork and we are thankful for YOU. Your support of JAC enables us to help elect - and reelect - candidates who are committed to protect our values every day.

Rep. Max Rose (NY-11)
Introduced The Save Lives Act (HR 5196). Prohibits donations from corporate political PACs of pharmaceutical companies that manufacture opioids.

Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-08)
Introduced Real-Time Benefits Act. Ensures patients are offered the lowest-cost drug available, and encourages competition to bring costs down across the board. It passed in the Public Disclosure of Drug Discounts Act.

Rep. Sharice Davids (KS-03)
Introduced the Count the Vote Act (HR 1513). Expands and protects voting rights by giving people the right to petition the Department of Justice to investigate voting complaints.

Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-06)
Introduced the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act of 2019. (HR 3076). Empowers law enforcement to ensure that those who pose a threat to themselves or others do not have access to firearms.

Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-07)
Introduced Honest Ads Act (HR 2592). Requires online political advertisements to follow the same disclosure standards as political ads on television and radio.

Rep. Susan Wild (PA-07)
Introduced two bills to improve suicide prevention programs on college campuses and make mental health care more accessible and affordable.

Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL)
Introduced the Healthy MOM Act (S.1481). Ensures that pregnant women can access affordable health coverage during and after their pregnancies.

Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI)
Introduced the State and Local Government Cybersecurity Act (S.1846), which the Senate unanimously approved. Promotes stronger cybersecurity coordination between the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and state and local governments.

Each of these candidates face tough re-election campaigns. They need your support to continue their work. DONATE NOW.

Not sure who to donate to? Make a donation to JAC and we will use it to support our candidates.

ISRAEL
House Resolution Supports Israel's Right to Defend Itself

Following the recent rocket attack by Palestinian Islamic Jihad two weeks ago, when terrorists from Gaza fired hundreds of rockets into Israel, a bipartisan group of House lawmakers introduced House Resolution 727, condemning terrorist rocket attacks on Israel and supporting Israel's right to defend itself. Representatives Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ 5th District) and Lee Eldin (R-NY 1st District) spearheaded the resolution.

ANTI-SEMITISM & BDS
The Far-Right Agenda of Trump's Most Controversial Aide

"He's burrowed down into the apparatus to make fundamental change," Stephen K. Bannon, the former Trump adviser, told my colleagues earlier this year. "People don't even see a lot of the stuff he's working on." Bannon was speaking of Stephen Miller, the 34-year-old White House staffer who maintains a curiously firm place within President Trump's otherwise constantly shifting orbit. Miller's fingerprints can be detected all over Trump's presidency. Although many advisers have come and gone during Trump's tumultuous presidency, Miller has endured. That is, until now.

CHOICE
24 States Would Have No Legal Protections for Abortion If Roe v. Wade Is Overturned

The Center for Reproductive Rights created a map and report after examining legal factors, including laws, constitutions and court decisions, in the U.S. to determine whether abortion access would be expanded, protected, not protected or prohibited across all 50 states, U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. The results showed that abortion would remain legal in 21 states, but 24 states - mostly in the central and southern regions of the U.S. - and three territories have no legal protections for abortion and would become "extremely vulnerable" to the implementation of draconian laws that would ban the practice.

SEPARATION
Two Leading Republicans Praise God for Bringing Us Trump

According to Rick Perry and Nikki Haley, we can thank God for bringing us, possibly, the most corrupt president America has ever seen. On Sunday, soon-to-be former Secretary of Energy Rick Perry, told Fox News viewers that President Trump is "The Chosen One." He hedged his statement by saying that God uses imperfect people to execute his plan, and, of course, Trump is not perfect. Perry said that, about a month ago, he shared a Biblical "one pager" with the president that spoke of past kings being chosen by God and then told Trump, "You are the chosen one."

BEYOND THE CORE
Black Friday Gun Deals: Background Checks Surge as Shoppers Buy in Response to Gun Control Proposals

The FBI is handling a surge in background checks this year after a series of mass shootings has renewed calls for more restrictive gun laws. Some of the biggest spikes came in August and September after attacks in El Paso and Odessa, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, that left 38 people dead. Past spikes in background checks, a rough barometer of gun sales, have been driven by fears that lawmakers would tighten gun laws.

POLITICAL BYTE
Have Different Politics from Your Family? Here's How to Survive Thanksgiving.

In our national political climate, nastiness has become an art form and escalating attacks on the opposition are celebrated. It's unlikely that the politicians will lead a call for civility. So, it is up to us to begin restoring courtesy and respect, not just in politics, but also in our everyday lives. Many of us will be brought to the test Thursday.

FYI
Giving Thanks in America
In the course of their daily lives, America's immigrants didn't have too many opportunities to demonstrate their love of country in a forum that felt true, unforced, and from the heart. The Melting Pot provided them with one. The celebration of Thanksgiving furnished the nation's newest Jewish arrivals, as well as those of long standing, with yet another. The two communities took eagerly to this most American of holidays, both on its own terms and, most especially, in relation to what some of their number defined as its biblical pedigree.

Joint Action Committee for Political Affairs (JACPAC) is a pro-Israel PAC with a domestic agenda. We support a strong U.S.-Israel relationship and advocate for reproductive health and the separation of religion and state and incorporate other issues of importance to the Jewish community, including gun violence prevention and climate change. In addition to providing financial support for U.S. Senate and House campaigns, JACPAC educates our membership with outreach events designed to inform and activate their participation in the political process.
