WHAT'S ON OUR MIND

As we head into this weekend, we eagerly await Kamala Harris' decision on her VP nominee. This individual will bring both political and policy strengths to the ticket. All the candidates under consideration are strong supporters of JAC's issues and Israel, reassuring the Jewish community that the iron-clad relationship between the U.S. and Israel will continue.

Once elected, Kamala must make more critical decisions about who to place in her cabinet. The ambassadors she selects will represent our government in foreign countries and help further those relationships. Her cabinet secretaries will be charged with enacting her agenda. Kamala will make those guided by her strong principles and values.

After all, President Joe Biden chose her because she mirrored his vision for America and would be a partner, standing shoulder to shoulder with him. Together, they built one of U.S. history's most successful and impactful administrations. She helped with policies that furthered our democratic values.

Trump's VP pick, JD Vance, has already set alarm bells here and abroad, as have his other potential choices for administration positions. At a rally last year, Trump boasted to the crowd that he'd bring back Michael Flynn. Flynn was forced out of Trump's White House in disgrace for lying about his communications with Russia. Flynn's recent efforts have focused on promoting the Christian nationalist movement through an organization he started.

The next Secretary of State Trump might appoint could very likely be Richard Grenell. This cabinet position plays a pivotal role, especially in the U.S.-Israel relationship. Grenell has been engaging in shadow diplomacy as a pseudo-envoy for Trump, supporting right-wing political movements in other countries to undermine elections and the administration's foreign policy agenda. He has openly supported far-right conservatives gaining more power in Europe. He stands with Trump and Putin, which will never be good for Israel.

Equally concerning are alt-right leanings. The American neo-Nazi, the Daily Stormer, has described Grenell as "literally our greatest ally."

In November, you are voting for president but also an administration. It's a complete package. Our choice needs to be for freedom, democracy, and stability at home and across the world. We will all be safer. Elections have consequences.
