Called to Serve Story

Michigan Lutheran Quilters met every Wednesday from January to the end of March. So far this year we have finished 50 quilts with several left to be finished.

Since there is such a high need locally for many things, we distribute our quilts to local families and the elderly, the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota, Michigan Area Ambulance Service, the Michigan Food Pantry, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Department, Grand Forks Northland Mission, a group home in Devils Lake, Devils Lake Dakota Prairie Action, Grand Forks CIVIC–Crisis Center, Prairie Harvest Homes in Grand Forks, Odd Fellows Basic Care Home in Devils Lake, Devils Lake Community Action Agency, Grand Forks Salvation Army, REM-ND in Devils Lake -- and more! Basically, anyone in need of a warm cover gets a quilt from the Michigan Lutheran Quilt Ministry.

From the churchwide expression of the ELCA: "The ELCA’s Truth & Healing Movement is an opportunity for this church to increase our understanding of our colonizing impacts on Indigenous people in the past and present. Over the next several months, there will be opportunities to learn, raise awareness and engage in other ways to impact hearts and lives across this church. We believe that the truth, and our knowing and embracing it, is the first step toward healing for all of us."

Upcoming classes include "Indian 101" and "Introduction to the Truth & Healing Movement." Click here for a list of upcoming events and more information.
