Details:
In December of 2021, through its “Each One, Reach One” campaign, the RCSD began addressing two major issues: employment opportunities and safe schools. Since then, the District has been sharing information with community partners about positions available, including jobs as teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals. Additionally, violence prevention is a way to keep school safe.
Most recently, On Wednesday, June 1, many of the same community partners who have gathered since December rejoined one another to strategize ways on how to keep children safe in school. This discussion included conversation about events in Buffalo, New York and Uvalde.
On Thursday, June 16, at 10 a.m., Chief Smith and other community partners will plant a tree, shrubbery, and flowers at Northwest Junior High School at Douglass. This “We Choose Life” event is a symbolic gesture of students’ desire to be educated in a safe environment while forming healthy relationships with law enforcement and community advocates.
On Thursday, June 16, at 6 p.m., many of the same community partners who gathered on June 1 will meet again at New Born Fellowship Church to continue the discussion on how to keep children safe in school. During this forum, law enforcement leaders and members of the community will work together to help strengthen communication and build healthy relationships between students, the community, and law enforcement.
