Wow Me Wednesday
12:15-12:45 pm
via Selwyn's Zoom Room

Join us for today's Wow Me Wednesday where Ms. Strand will be hosting a lesson in Spanish for our students. You can access an optional activity page HERE.

The February 24th Wow Me Wednesday will focus on a favorite student past time: VIDEO GAMES! CMS and New Hanover High Schooler’s from the Carolina Fintech Hub YTAC program (Youth Technology Apprenticeship Camp) will put on a variety show using popular games like Minecraft and Rocket League to show how video games can not only build important skills like teamwork, leadership and communication… but also how STEM, coding and technology come together to make some of their favorite things possible. Selwyn students will get to see first-hand how they can learn to code their own video games, and parents will get a chance to see how esports can be a powerful force for personal development when structured properly.

Right after next week's Wow Me Wednesday session, students will also get a chance to sign up for the new Selwyn Esports Competition, where they will compete in Minecraft and Rocket League, and the champion teams from each grade will face off against each other in an epic tournament live streamed on Twitch where their family and friends can cheer them on.

Building Blocks Campaign Underway

We have reached the halfway mark of the Building Blocks campaign and have raised just over $14,000. Thank you to the families who have already donated. Click HERE to see a list of donors to date.

The first 100 families to donate will receive a yard sign, as seen in the picture!

There are also several prizes to be won:
  • The grade with the highest participation will receive a hot chocolate pajama party!
  • The top three classes with the highest participation will get to silly string Dr. Harris! In order to be eligible, a class must reach at least 75% participation.
  • Help your child’s teacher win a FLEX day! Teachers of the 5 classes with the highest participation will receive a free FLEX day from Dr. Harris.
Currently, the classes with the highest participation are:
Gardepe- 38%
Lockwood- 25%
Vande Weghe- 20%
Valois- 19%
Hager- 18%

Building Blocks dollars go toward classroom technology, walkie talkie repairs, classroom
libraries, EOG prep material, playground equipment and much more. See the two photos of what your 2020 Building Blocks dollars are in the process of building.

This year, in addition to necessary classroom purchases, we’d like to raise enough money to
resurface the track and add an umbrella shade to the Play 60 playground such as the one
shown in the picture.

To donate, please visit the Building Blocks page at https://selwynpta.org/fundraising/building-
blocks/. Send any questions (or opt out of the yard sign) to Alison and Zvonimir Milas at
Join Our 2021-22 Selwyn PTA Board

We need your help! One of the things that makes Selwyn special is our strong parent volunteers. We are already planning for next year, when we hope to continue our traditions and celebrations to the greatest extent possible. Next year is going to be critical for our children and we need strong PTA volunteers.

Click HERE for a link to a list of Board positions. If you are interested in helping, please email Whitney Seeburg at whitneyseeburg@gmail.com and we will find a position for you. We can use everyone’s help! We are also in need of volunteers who have accounting, finance and web development skills.

Thanks for your commitment to Selwyn!
