Photo Identification
When you come to Selwyn – as a visitor, volunteer, or to check-in or out your student – you must have picture identification with you. It is a CMS requirement as of December 10, 2018. Even if the school staff or the volunteer in the front office knows you, it is now policy that you must have identification. Thank you for understanding and supporting the safety of our school!

Building Blocks
Our annual Building Blocks fundraiser kicked off last week, and we have only 4 weeks this year to try to beat last year’s total of more than $100,000!

Please consider giving – Building Blocks helps fund larger purchases such as technology and playground equipment. Gifts are confidential and tax deductible. Information, along with a donation form, was sent home last week in your child’s weekly folder.

Parents for students in Grades K–2 , please join us for an informal parent meeting this Thursday, February 7th at 7:00 pm at the home of Michele and Steve Mangan (1951 Maryland Ave) to learn more about how your gift can make an impact.

RSVP to Michele Mangan . Drinks and light hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Questions? Learn more or please contact us . Or, you can donate now !
Volunteer Day at Billingsville-Cotswold
Selwyn’s Schoolmates committee is looking for volunteers to help with an upcoming Volunteer Day Wednesday, February 20 at our sister school, Billingsville-Cotswold Elementary.

Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs – laminating, making copies, helping organize resource rooms, etc. If you are interested in helping out, please sign up here .

Please contact Cathy Bradley or Jamie Scurry with questions.
Counselors' Coffee
You talked, we listened! The School Counselors thank you for your feedback on the beginning of year parent survey and have used the information to guide the topic and time of our Counselors' Coffee.

Please join Selwyn School Counselors Jenny Baer (grades K, 3, 4) and Rebecca Manning (grades 1, 2, 5) and School Psychologist Amy Wichman for coffee and conversation on February 7 from 8:30 – 9:30 am . We will be presenting on the topic of "Helping your child manage anxiety - building confidence and competence." We will discuss the nature of anxiety in children, strategies to prevent and manage anxiety in common school and social situations, and how to tame test anxiety. Parents will also have the opportunity to share ideas about what has worked for you and your child in addressing anxiety.
Raising Resilient Kids
Please join Dr. Emma Kate Wright on February 12 at 6:00 pm in the Selwyn Media Center as she discusses “5 little known secrets to raising resilient kids”, based on research from the field of positive psychology! Parents will learn specific strategies to use with their children to foster their well being!
First Annual Grandparents/Special Friend Day
Have you wanted to share how awesome Selwyn is with a grandparent or special friend (such as another relative, neighbor or babysitter)? Now you can!

Selwyn will be hosting our first annual Grandparents/Special Friend Day on Friday, February 15 from 8:30-10:30 am . Doors open at 8:30 and the program begins at 9:00. This shared celebration will allow grandparents/special friends to not only learn about Selwyn with a fun student presentation in the gym but to also visit your student’s classroom!

Please note that given room constraints, this event is intended only for grandparents and special friends and not for parents and siblings. Thanks for your understanding!

To help with planning of the event, please RSVP here wi th the name and teacher of your student(s) along with the number of attendees joining them.

Please allow extra time to check in and a photo ID is required.

Learning Buddies Reading Blitz!
A Note from Dr. Harris:

Our very supportive PTA has a committee called Learning Buddies. Presently, there are 13 Learning Buddies who support our students each week . The push is to get additional parent volunteers to read with a student and for the student to answer a few comprehension questions at least 30 minutes a week.

If you are interested in serving as a Learning Buddy, please submit your name to Emily Browne and Quinerly Cowden . Mrs. Vulgamore will train new Learning Buddies on Tuesday, February 5 and Wednesday, February 6 at 8:00 am in the Principal's Conference Room.

The Learning Buddies Reading Blitz will take place from Monday, February 11 through Friday, April 12. The times are 7:45 - 8:15 am for students in grades K, 1, 2, 3, & 5 and 8:30 - 9:00 am for students in 4th grade. The impact will be the student building a love of reading while also building a positive working relationship with our parent volunteers. I am looking forward to our continued partnership!
